You've probably read about the Northwest Flight 188 over shooting Minneapolis-St. Paul by 150 miles. Hello....is anybody awake in the cockpit?

How the hell do you miss a big city? I mean, yeah, we'd all love to miss the Twin Cities, but at 35,000 feet and limited fuel supply? Someone forgot to set their alarm clock.

I place infinitely more trust in even a mediocre pilot than the average driver on the roads anywhere in the United States.

Per miles traveled, airplanes are approximately 100 times safer than automobiles. Trains are twice as safe as airplanes.

Talked to a buddy stationed here in Wisconsin.. they were alerted and told to get ready.. that there is scary enough.

Why I don't fly often unless for business.. simply overpriced service for a family.

I will drive it if I can.

That's really not surprising considering the lack of roads in the air, lack of teenagers driving, buildings, street signs, etc ...

I really never understood that comparison at all.

Car crash per amount of cars.
Plane crash per plane flight.

With that comparison, the plane's are still ahead in crash department. Not sure about death's or injuries though.

When I said safer, what I should have said is deaths. That's how "safer" is measured - in deaths per mile.

I suppose this could sum up the comparison soundly.

Which is easier to obtain?
A vehicle and drivers license
or
airplane and pilots license

Big difference here.. in a car I have some say in how it turns out.. in a plane or train.. I have no control over it.

After my delays in my first flying experience and the cancellation. I'd prefer driving, even if the number say it's less safe. 13 plus years of driving and I've yet to get into a bad accident. Was rear ended at a stop light twice, that's about it.
