Driver's a class act. Congrats to Driver.

Funny, I remember him buried in the depth chart. I remember he was a 7th round pick and didn't really think much of him. Then that one year, the Packers pretty much let go of all their WRs except Driver because they saw potential in him.

Absolutely amazing. I don't think anyone in 1999 would have thought Donald Driver would someday have 600 catches.

Yeah, never thought Driver would still be around. He came in with Charles Lee and Corey Bradford, iirc. LOL.

Sharpe would have had alot more if he headn't had to retire because of injury.
That said, I'd rather see Driver with the record, as he's a great guy, and Sharpe was full of himself.
Driver has worked his butt off for this team. And i LOVED watching him today. He was all over the place, and you could see he was having fun.

I agree with you when it comes to personal reasons, but had Sharpe not been injured, we probably would have won the SBs in '95 and '97. Sharpe was simply unstoppable, much better than anyone we've had since and that includes Javon Walker, despite what Favre says.

Sharpe is better than anyone today, and that includes Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald. Bold? Perhaps. But the stats back me up and I've seen all of them.

Sharpe's injury resulted from him lowering his head to run over people for first downs. Incredibly tough guy. James Jones has a little SS in him.

Yeah CONGRATS to Driver.

Great player and an even better person.

But yeah, kind of strange that he is the only 600 reception guy but I guess that speaks to the lack of WR greatness with the Pack.

But we can't really complain when had Lombardi, Starr, Favre, White, etc.

"zombieslayer" wrote:

Arguably the best player of his generation was a WR - Don Hutson. He revolutionized the game.

We also had James Lofton, who had the most yards record until Jerry Rice came along.

Sterling Sharpe could have made a run at Rice's record.

Now we have Driver and Jennings, two long shots at the HoF (there are a lot of really, really good WRs today, not a knock on them, just saying there's a lot of competition).

So I wouldn't say the Packers didn't have good WRs in our history.

Now, I wish our site historian would come along and tell us about Dale, Dolar, and Max McGee. How good were they? Before my time so I don't know. The only reason I know about Hutson is I listen to old men in bars talk football.

The other thing, 600 receptions is a new thing. In the old days, you simply didn't pass like you did today. 4000 yards was very rare. I remember Lynn Dickey was one of the first QBs to do it. Now several QBs each year throw for 4000 yards.

Same thing with 100 receptions. Used to be very rare. Not any more.

Glad it happened to a class guy like Donald. I always love the players who make it big doing it the work ethic way instead of just natural talent.

Seriously. My brother had a Terdell Middleton jersey. It was like a jinx. He had a Paul Coffman jersey. It's like every time he got a jersey, that dude would end up no longer on the team. LOL. So I gave him my James Lofton jersey. No WAY they get rid of Lofton, right?
Should have given him Lynn Dickey's jersey years before. LOL. Or an old Forrest Gregg jersey.

Career stats
Receptions 	595
Receiving Yards 	8,134
Touchdowns 	65
Career highlights and awards

    * 5 Pro Bowl selection (1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994)
    * 5 All-Pro selection (1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994)
    * Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame
    * Led NFL in receptions in 1989, 1992, and 1993
    * Led NFL in receiving TDs in 1992 and 1994
I don't think it is right to assume what his stats would have been if he was not injured.

I think the most impressive thing about Driver is where he came from and all the hard work he has put into getting to this point... embedded into Packers history for years to come.

Skinny little kid in 1999 to a honed physical receiver that has achieved so much in this game.

Hats off Donald.. you are truly a Packer person.
