Kampman was the only player to hit Brett in the game that I can remember. And he did it twice. There are a couple reasons for the so called lack of production from Kamp.

1. Rush him more. He is getting dropped into coverage way to often. He should be rushing a minimum of 75% of the time.

2. 2 Man front. This formation does not seem to be setup for getting pressure from the base. It allows for easier blocking assignments for the opposing lineman.

3. Kampman weight. He dropped another something between 5-10 lbs with the switch to LBer. Them extra lbs are missed.

The biggest reason IMO is the 2 man front. What it is basically doing is putting us in a normal 4-3 only with 2 LBers instead of DE's. Get back to having 3 down lineman. We will get better production from the OLB's when that close to 1000 lbs is sitting in the middle.

I say ... unleash Kampman. Let him target the QB every 2nd and 3rd down and 1st and longs.

1st and 10, let him play rush/pass. The guy has a talent and we're not using it to its fullest ability. (my opinion)

Reading that hurt a little. Obviously by my username everyone can see I am a fan of Aaron Kampman. I know it is not good to get hooked on a single player of a team but ever since watching the Packers I can honestly say I liked Kampman as much as I did that one quarterback we used to have (forgot his name).

This makes me upset with the new 3-4 defense. We switched and took a lot of "star" players out of their element.

-Nick Barnett is too small as a middle linebacker in the 3-4.
-Our bump and run corner backs are no longer able to play bump and run.
-Aaron Kampman is barely pass rushing, one of the top pass rushers of the league.

I was down with the 3-4 when it was said that Kampman was going to be rushing more than covering. I have yet to see that. I am not going to disagree and say he shouldn't be traded away because for the benefit of his career, he should be used as a pass rusher. Taking him out of his element is hurting his career.
I will surely be one pissed off Green Bay fan if/when Kampman is traded. Period. He is an amazing leader for this team and an extremely humble player.

I disagree. I think Woodson can play man or zone with the best of them. Harris, he was slipping even as a man to man corner. I've seen the same 'dah where did da bah-ll go' look on his face as the last few years.

Nick Barnett I've always felt would be better on the outside or as a fat safety, lol.

Kampman I think should be rushing the passer far more than he has been. Unleash the beast!

Hmm, maybe we could trade him to Buffalo for Marshawn Lynch? They seem to be pleased with Fred Jackson.

No team in their right mind would give up a starting OT who knows the scheme for a DE that lost weight to become a LB, and has been ineffective all year. Well, wait.... does Oakland have any good linemen?

why the hell would we trade for marshawn lynch?

1) hes not all that impressive
2) if we were to trade kampman i would be very upset if we got anything other than a good starting offensive lineman.

Ok so he's dropped 5 to 10 pounds, this, hopefully, means he is quicker. When he played D end he was not overpowering people he was using finesse moves to get to the QB. Why not try him at D end? I'm saying this with 100% assuredness of my naivety of the 3-4 d end. I just don't understand why he would not play there. Do the ends have to be run stoppers also? If so our d is doing pretty good with the run. I just think it's like playing a TE on an O-line. It's just negating Kamp's skills.

On Kampman and tags

By Greg A. Bedard

In my story today about outside linebacker Aaron Kampman, I discussed at one point the possibility of the Packers trading him before the Oct. 20 trade deadline.

If they don't think he's a good fit for the 3-4 defense, it would make sense for the Packers to at least talk internally about trading him. The overriding issue is that Kampman will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Why not get something for him now rather than let him walk away?

But there's another possible course of action for the Packers in regards to Kampman, and I neglected to point it out:

They could place the franchise or transition tag on him.

If the Packers place the franchise tag on Kampman, they would have to pay him the average of the top five players at his position. That number was $8.34 million this year for a linebacker (it will go up for 2010). Interestingly, Kampman would get a slightly higher salary if he were still an end ($8.991 million).

If another team wanted to sign Kampman, they would have to surrender two first-round picks.

That's not going to happen. What is more likely is a team would work out a trade for Kampman. It's the same scenario the Packers went through with DT Corey Williams in 2008 when he was shipped to Cleveland.

A transition tag is worth the top 10 at the position ($7.48 million). But the Packers would only have the right to match the offer. If they didn't, the Packers would get no compensation.

Very good article. There's a really nice follow-up which is not about Kampman. Might be good enough for its own article. I'll let the mods decide.

That said, I wouldn't mind a trade at this point. We can use our franchise tag for some other guys and I can already see the Vikings screwing us over with a transition tag (See Hutchinson and Burleson).

Trade him now, don't use the franchise on him. We need help now not later.

Trading Kamp for me would all depend on what we get for him. I don't see us getting a starter LT for him unless there is some team that is in as much of a need for a DE as we are for LT.

Wow I can't believe this. Last year he is in the top 15 in the league in sacks, the anchor of our line, and a great leader. But hey he hasn't performed well in a new defense in the first 4 games. Yeah let's trade him!!!!

This is stupid. You think the locker room was ticked when Rouse was cut, what are they gonna see when we cut one of our most talented players? I hate how everyone seems to have forgotten how great of a player Kamp is. Have some faith. I, for one, will be ticked if we get rid of such a great player and leader. The answer is not to trade him, it is to find a better way to use him in this scheme!!!!!
