Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - Sept. 28

(In a normal week, would that cause problems in practice with the reps in getting Colledge ready?)
Good point. Anytime you play a game, you definitely want to give Daryn Colledge and it even goes as far as Jason Spitz if you have to move people around, the opportunity to get ready to play. But I think the extra day with the guys being examined on Thursday morning will definitely help us.

I don't know if I should be bothered by this or not. I cant believe that Clifton will be 100% for the game (yes, Clifton hasn't been 100% healthy since probably pee-wee football, dude is tough), but I hate splitting reps for this front-5. I'd rather have Colledge get a week of practice at LT and play, and let Clifton rest through the bye and get him back healthy.

This is a big game. If the injury is not severe he should play through it.

The way Colledge was talking he was expecting Clifton to be playing.

I want it to be true, that's for sure. And I know that injuries aren't predictable in their rehab and how they will respond to practice, so have to go with what looks best at the time.

I'm almost wondering Colledge could make the transition to RT this season.

LT - Clifton
LG - Spitz
C - Wells
RG - Sitton
RT - Colledge

He can't be worse than Barbre and this allows us to get our best 5 linemen on the field at once. The dropoff from Spitz to Wells isn't significant, and neither is Colledge to Spitz.

I guess it would all depend on if College could play RT.

The shuffling they do on the offensive line can be hard enough to adjust to as it stands. Colledge has always primarily been the teams starting left guard, so once Clifton gets back, go back to the Week 1 alignment.

Is an 80% Clifton honestly going to be better than Colledge at this point? Clifton wasn't exactly playing well against Odom even before he sprained his ankle. I doubt he's going to be 100% before Monday night.

At this stage, it's probably better just to keep the current 5 who played against the Rams and let them get as many reps in practice as possible. Let Clifton have this week and the bye to get ready for W6 against the Lions.

We could just let Clifton practice with the 2's just to see where his ankle is at...That way the 5 that played against the Rams still get their reps.

But Clifton won't be able to fully test himself when going up against people like Thompson, Obiozor and what not. Also, we'd still have two guys getting reps at positions they won't be playing.

You have to be pretty sure of what's going to happen at the start of the first practice, really. Whoever the starters are, they need the reps. Just look at what happend when Colledge had to switch from guard to tackle in the middle of a game. 4 sacks for Odom... Just think of what Allen could do.

How healthy is healthy?

I say (and said) that the key to this game is LT.

We already discussed loose trou or whatever, so I reckon' I'll get slightly more specific in this post.

I think the absolute best strategy for this game would be to put the option that gives us our best RUN BLOCKER at left tackle...health considerations... considered highly.

Run the ball RIGHT AT Jared Allen, imo. We MIGHT get some success there, but more importantly to me, we MIGHT slow him down a notch or two in the pass rush by doing so.

And the FANS should get a pool up and send Jared a really nice liquor assortment to arrive Monday. Sunday is no good, because he might slosh it down his disgusting gullet too soon.

Can't hurt. I'll chip in.

I don't see any chance of doing much of anything against the Williams' wall.

I would be shocked if we did, based on what I have seen thus far.

This is not good.

I'm pretty sure Colledge played RT against the Lions in the final game of last season. He can't be any worse than Barbre, I guess it just depends if the Packers see Colledge as a tackle long-term, they have no-long term successor to Clifton outside of him if Lang is seen more as a guard.

dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.
wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
