Alright, so we've seen the Packers play two games that matter now after an amazing season and the we've been good at pointing out our most prominent weaknesses. And although they are key, I don't believe that's the only thing hurting our team. For a football team to win a game they must be competitive and driven because it a tiring and brutally physical sport. I don't remember what former coach/player said it, but they mentioned that the most important aspect of winning a football game is momentum. I agree almost wholeheartedly with this statement. Try and recall the last two games as far as how you felt (not the numbness from the beer, were talking emotions people) during the course of the game. We lost momentum A LOT. Whenever we gained some, we had it pulled out from right underneath us. Here are a few key points:

- Crosby's missed field goals. Anytime an offense gets into scoring range and fails to put any points on the board it's a huge downer. Missed field goals tend to be even worse because they make they fill the entire offense with feelings of futility--all that for nothing?

- Sacks. Our offense has given up a lot of sacks, and not just 5 yards here and there but drive-ending, possession changing, long yardage losing sacks. Both Rodgers and the O-Line have things to fix quickly from this standpoint.

- Rhythm. Every quarterback in the league needs to get into a rhythm to be successful. Stringing a few completions together helps a QB build their confidence and ultimate slows the game down to a tempo in which they can control. It doesn't matter if these completions are huge gains or just check downs. For notes just look at Kurt Warner or Brett Favre this week--sure neither had amazing numbers as far as yardage or touchdowns but their completion percentage allowed them to control the offense at their own pace.

- Drops. This also leads into the last point a little point--the QB build a rhythm if his receivers fail to catch the ball. I know for fact that we had at least 5 drops in each of the first two games but a huge point to mention is that a lot have come on the first few drives of the game. If a team can negate mistakes on the first few drives and put points on the board it's a huge confidence boost.

- Penalties, penalties and more penalties. It seems the last few games the refs have been pretty flag happy. And while some calls are bad, the majority have been stupid mistakes that our team is prone to making over and over again. Unfortunately for us, these penalties have come at the least opportune times, whether it's turning a third-and-short to a third-and-long or the defense allowing the offense to continue their drive. Penalties kill teams.

I'm sure there are definitely more momentum killers we've experienced in the last two games but these are the few I've chosen to highlight as they've all come at the wrong time. The Packers have not been allowed to get the momentum they needed to win games this year. Looking back to the pre-season our offense started hot each game giving us both a lead and an emotion lift. Remember the pre-season game we were winning by more than 20 points and almost lost? Yes I know it's pre-season but it shows when a team gains control of the momentum, they gain control of the game.

I also want to touch on two plays I think killed our momentum in the Bengals game:

1) The Bengals were lined up within their own 10 facing a 3rd-and-34--they run a screen pass. The receiver hustles a good twenty yards and fumbles forward past the first down marker, the Bengals recover and get a first down. While this play ultimately wasn't the Packers fault--they had players ready to make the tackle well before the first down--they still lost quite a bit of the momentum they had built up when forcing the Bengals into such a woeful position.

2) On the very next play the Bengals ran a flea-flicker, attacking our reserve safeties and gaining a huge play in the passing game. The Bengals practically turned the game in their favor for one of the first teams with this play. Two huge plays in the fact of the Packers defense in a row after what could have been a huge stands defaces the entire team, sapping them of their confidence.

Yes, there were more plays that killed our momentum but these two were a huge turning point in the game.

Ultimately if were able to keep momentum, limit mistakes and get into a rhythm early we should be a better football team. Sometimes I feel that having the youngest football team in the league doesn't work in our favor here. I still have high hopes for the Packers but they have to fix things fast. Unfortunately we play the Rams next week so we can only truly gauge if this team isn't the powerhouse we think it is.

On that flea flicker, Palmer was getting hit and the ball was underthrown. Collins picks that off. I'm surprised Bush didn't give up a TD.
The extra 15 yards on the roughing the QB penalty didn't help either. Al Harris always gets those calls, just due to his reputation as a bump and run guy.

Bush was horribly out of position on that play. I don't know what exactly he was doing, as the WR just about stopped running, waiting for the ball, while he was 10 yards down the field before he finally figured out that the ball was going to the receiver.

At least he didn't bite on the flea flicker like Rouse did, who made up quite some ground to eventually make that tackle, though.

We really should not have given up that 3rd and 34. Also ryan grant had a huge fumble that took our momentum away.

3rd & 34 was the biggest load of crap I've seen since 4th and 26.

Have to give Bush some credit on that play actually. Harris was the under coverage on Bush's side and he blitzed late (don't think he was assigned blitzing that play). Leaving Bush as the only real coverage. he had to play soft, and had he gone for the play on the ball, he easily could have given up the TD. But he played it safe and held up the play allowing help to come. Very good play IMO.

I have no problem with that call on Al. It was actually dirty. Anytime a player leads with his helmet above the QBs shoulder pads it's dirty and I don't care if he's a Packer.

The main thing that is pissing me off most is the same damn thing as last year, Why is it we start each half so damn slow, I guess MM will just say it was bad pad level.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

He was playing way too soft, if you ask me. He couldn't even make the tackle after the catch, because he was still about 10-15 yards away when the receiver had the ball. A good wide receiver on a safety in the open field like that... I don't like my odds that much. He got lucky that it was slightly underthrown and Rouse could come in to take the receiver from behind.

I'll give him credit for stalling the runner and at least not making a bad play a horrible one...

I agree with both.
3rd and 34, yes, they got a lucky bounce and recovery at the end to get the first down. But should it have EVER come down to that? The play should have been tackled after a few yard gain.
And the Grant fumble.....yup, BIG drive killer.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately

Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
