Starting in the second half score is tied and the defense holds the Bengals on their first attempt. What happens. McCarthy forgets that there are two aspects to the offense.

3 runs and 30 passes in the 2nd half. When the opposing team is getting pressure. Terrible play calling

I was saying the exact thing during the game. The announcers were saying how the Packers (Grant) wasn't getting the job done running the ball. But they didn't have a chance to run the ball. Grant only got 14 total attempts, how can there be any sort of rhythm when you run the ball so sporadically?

wow. i knew it was lopsided, but 3 runs and 30 passes. just wow.

Shows the amount of faith he has in the o-line....a big fat 0 as it should be. Our offensive line is terrible and we can't run a damn thing, can't pass a damn thing. They are terrible.

The few times we did run, did we gain any yards? (Answer: NO)
So why keep trying it, when it hasn't worked in 3 games?

The problem, as I see it, isn't that we're passing so much (we should be). The problem is we're swinging for the fences on so many plays, ignoring the checkdowns and open receivers who could net us first downs and instead electing to chuck it into thick coverage. We're getting way from the West Coast Offense, and I'm not sure why.

For what it's worth, I don't see our offensive players triggering any escalators this season. We're going to save a ton of money if this continues.

I disagree...Grant was averaging about 4 yds/carry in the first half. That isn't bad enough to give up on the run completely.

Kinda off topic...

If our Oline is leaking like a sieve...why the heck don't we try more screens? Seems like a reasonable counter to aggressive linemen.

Grant ran 11 times for 39 yards (3.5 avg) in the first half. But that's deceiving. He had a long run of 8 yards. In other words, except for his long run, he averaged 3.1 ypc. That's not good -- it's well less than mediocre.

I don't think we can run the screen because in order to give the time for the screen to develop, Rodgers will have to run backwards about 30yds.

I am surprised that there were not more quick slant calls though.

I stand corrected, but I still stand by the fact that we were in the game and completely forgot about the run. McCarthy forgets about the run at the first sign of struggle with it. I think running the ball takes rhythm, you can have that rhythm running the ball only 11 times in the first half and 3 in the second.

A good coaching staff will make adjustments to compensate for the lack of running game. Short dink and dunk passes, screens, draws...but we did none of that. Instead we throw a hail mary pass in the middle of the fourth quarter. (I'm not saying the McCarthy called that, but you get where I'm coming from)
