In his time, Sharpe was the best WR playing. Better than Carter and Irvin. Would like to see him in, but don't think he will make it. At least we will get to see another #84 catching for GB in the future.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Ron Wolf is also on that list.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in. He was good enough the short time he did play.

Also I really want to see LeRoy Butler go into the HOF. I think the shadow of Favre and Reggie White will kill his chance though even though.

Sterling was great. I think the injury that cut his career short resulted from him putting his head down and running guys over for first downs. Great player. He made the Majik man and Favre.

See the strap right there? That's something Sharpe had for a very long time. It something that he was born with. Where his head would always look down. I could be off with that, but that's what I recall.

Some other interesting guys on that list : Kevin Greene(!), Clay Matthews(!), Ken Anderson, Steve Tasker(!), Ray Guy, Art Modell and Ron Wolf(!)

From that list, plus Sharpe and Butler, the only one I see having a good chance of making it is Kevin Greene. I've never quite bought the arguments for Tasker or Guy, and I don't think the selectors will either.

I don't know anything about Clay Matthews, Sr., so maybe he has a chance.

I would like to see Sterling get in, but am afraid his career was too short. He was truly amazing to watch. I remember that record in '92 for catches. He got it on the last game of the season against the Queens I believe. Another interesting fact about that game is if we had won against those purple pukes, we would have made the playoffs...some guy named Faver was the QB. ::shrug::

And as far as Ray Guy goes...quite literally the best punter EVER in my opinion. He has an award named after him, he was punting footballs into giant TV screens before Jerry Jones made it easy to do, and kicked the ball SO high and SO far that an opponent actually had one of his footballs tested for helium.

Forget what I said about the award named after him, it doesn't mean diddley! B.J. Sander won it 2003....we see how that turned out. :thumbleft:

Comparing him to other great players with short careers, I don't think he measures up well. Gale Sayers made the Hall because he was a unique talent who changed the game. Some people have made that same argument for Bob Hayes, but he has not made it, and probably will not. Terrell Davis, as I mentioned, won two Super Bowls, which gives him an advantage over Sharpe.

The bottom line is that a player can't make the Hall based on what he MIGHT have done if he had a full career. It's a drag, because Sharpe would've put up some incredible career stats, especially on that offense with Favre throwing to him.

He did have kind of a difficult personality, though, so who knows, maybe things would not have worked out that way. It would not be hard to imagine him demanding more money than what Wolf would've been willing to pay. Of course, then he would've put up incredible numbers for some other team.
