Any interest????

Damion McIntosh (32)
The guy was cut in KC due to his contract. He been a starter most of his career.

John Runyan (35)

This guy is tough as nail and can still play at a high level.

Jason Fabini (35)

Kwame Harris (31)

Jonas Jennings (31)

Charles Spencer (27)

I'm all for giving Barbre one more chance, but if he fails, Giacomini is not the answer at this point. Tausher won't be ready for a while.

I know you guys will think this is an over reaction thread, but where would our season be if, God forbid, Aaron Rodgers went down. That's not something I would be willing to risk if I was Ted Thompson or MM. If this season is a flop the Pack might have to take a real hard look at our GM and coach. One winning season in five years might not cut it.......

Agree???

At least you are giving Barbre a chance, so the thread isn't in complete hysteria 🙂 I was really high on Barbre during the preseason. Thought his running blocking is much improved. I don't believe we'll see an immediate change at the position. I think MM and Philbin will stick to their guns of actually having a static Oline, at least for now.
As for the immediate future, Barbre (if still starting) will be lined up against Robert Geathers . This is a step down from Ogunleye  this last weekend. So I expect to see improvement in his pass coverage. I also look to MM and Philbin to provide more help earlier if it is a problem again.
Here's to hoping Barbre bounces back and has a good game. And talking about a flop of a season already? Come on, lets get through some games first before we talk about hot seats of our GM and coach.

While the play of Allen Barbre had most of us hoping for Ted to call Mark Tauscher, it looks like he may have actually been on the phone with former Eagles lineman Jon Runyan, according to an ESPN.com insider article. I guess I wouldn't mind this, even though Runyan has had his injury problems. Still, I think Barbre stepped up in the second half on Sunday night, and deserves another shot before we call in for a reliever.

Ummm isn't Runyan in the same boat as Tausher? .... and Tausher already knows everyone and all the plays..... and I'm not sure if it's true but someone said the Eagles new starting RT just went to the I.R. ... if true wouldn't the Eagles want Runyan back if he's healthy? and since he know all the plays. (if that was true.)

I saw stink with Barbre but maybe try Lang over there and see how he does...

Nothing would make me happier than to see Barbre bounce back. Cohesiveness on the oline is so important. Remember the Clifton, Wahle, Flanagan, Rivera, Tauscher line up? One of the best lines we ever had in title town.

I truly believe in baptism by fire. But after last week, Barbre should be in the intensive burn unit waiting on skin grafts. I think he could be a great player. He's an athletic freak with a ton of potential... I just think he might need another year of polish before stepping into the starting line up. The TC battle btw him and Giacomini seemed like a "who will hurt us less" type battle.

I was just mentioning it as another reason Ted Thompson might want to consider looking at veteran options. He's built a great team, but a couple missed blocks could lead to a long season. I know Ted Thompson usually sticks to his guns, but he has traded up in the draft in two consecutive seasons. He knows this team is really close to being a serious contender, and I wonder if he's willing to risk it all with Barbre if he continues to struggle.

In the NFL nowadays, every GM and coach are constantly being evaluated. Look at Shanahan, Gruden, and Mangini getting the boot last year after having better records than the Pack (I think).

I'm hoping there is more to the Runyan rumors. He's a tough SOB and would be a good stop gap for a year at RT. Hopefully Barbre picks up his play so all of this will be moot in a month. (like Nick Collins last season!)

I like Kwame Harris, he will be an upgrade on the OL, his scouting report say this:

http://profootball.scout.com/2/78244.html

Big, athletic tackle still learning the position. Fluid, agile and displays excellent blocking range. Can shuffle and slide in pass protection, effective in space or out to the second level. Stays square, keeps defenders in front of him and fights with his hands. Anchors at the point in pass protection or gets movement form his run blocks. Breaks down well, bends his knees and generally blocks with leverage.

We only need for him to be our RT, he will do just fine and cheap

I don't think we should be considering an upgrade until after the Vikings game on October 5th, considering the vikings front line is a good beacon that can unravel how talented(or crappy) Babre is.

I want to give Barbre a shot at RT, but adding a veteran to the roster wouldn't hurt. We have such a young O-line and so little depth on the roster, that we would have to go with Giacomini if Barbre isn't playing well. If a tackle goes down, Colledge or Lang would have to be the back-up tackle.

This situation just isn't too comfortable atm. We should add one veteran player for depth. Mark Tauscher (I know, I know), Kwame Harris, Levi Jones...

When Uncle Ted traded up in the first round I thought for sure it was for one of the tackles that dropped (Britton), and I coulnd't believe my ears when I heard Clays name called.

I understand the beef against Thompson when it comes to the O-line.

Pet peeve.

Two picks earlier, the Pats traded their pick to the Ravens and got nearly nothing in return. I believe that, if Thompson had called in then, he would've gotten the deal done. The Ravens drafted Oher. A real steal.

Just take a little look at that Ravens game last week. He was dominant at RT for most of it.

Jon Runyan is a very interesting game, I wonder how long it would take him to get into a game though (the same applies for Tauscher). In the weeks they're getting in football-shape we're still, potentially, left with a major problem at RT.

Colledge's ankle sprain just shows what a fine line we're walking.

He's basically the best backup OT at both spots.

Hopefully Colledge is fine and Barbre puts in a dominating performance on Sunday.

The question for me is if Jon Runyan is ready to go right now. To me, a comparison of the two in the "ready" department, coupling them together as somehow at the same stage in their recovery is very inaccurate.

Jon has stated repeatedly that he is ready to go. He has been cleared to practice and work out. He has worked out for several teams, and I have seen what the local news has put up as coverage of those workouts.

It is only now that he is "signable" by most teams due to the monetary part of the equation with him. Everyone that has an interest in him was waiting for the first game to avoid having to obligate themselves for a full year if they sign him.

Jon Runyan, if he is in fact healthy, would be our best offensive lineman, imo. That is quite a leap from what we have now at RT. He is a perfect fit, again in my opinion, because he is not going to stunt the growth of an Allen Barbre, because he has said (I saw it on TV here in PA) that this will probably be it for him--as in this is probably his last year--he has said that he intends to play as long as he can, but feels that this one is probably "it".

Of course they all say that. Thing is, if Jon Runyan says it, you can bank it, imo. He is a straight shooting, no bullshit, highly intelligent individual...

Look at what he isn't doing. He isn't bad-mouthing the Iggles for moving on without him, has mentored his replacement (now hurt--Jon staying silent on that as well) hasn't complained about other teams wanting to "check the goods" by making him workout, etc.

Leadership?

This is big Jon Runyan. One of the greats to have ever played the position. As far as I'm concerned, we can go ahead and fire our o-line coaches and put big Jon in charge as soon as his playing days are over.

Oh, and for those that do not know...Big Jon isn't just a catchy phrase.

Jon goes 6'7" and 330 lbs. He has been teaching pad level to defensive players found on the ground for approaching record levels games played-wise. You aren't moving Jon Runyan, even on a very good day for you, imo.

(I like Jon the man, can you tell?) :thumbleft:

Mark has one thing Jon doesn't experience in this offense and it calls... Mark could be fast tracked into games if need be.. IMO.

Can you tell I am partial to the Badger? 😉

Filipe---We all hope he does well...(Barbre). We have [strike]a thread[/strike] multiple threads debating that very issue. This thread is about some alternatives for a RT as they exist in the NFL at this time. I'm not complaining about you putting it here, I'm explaining why I am not discussing it....here, in this thread...personally...others might choose to do so.

Edit: Here is the first one--- I will not even get into how many ,ore there are---

Mid September now...I see film (call me MM junior :thumbleft: ) on Jon right now. I'm not seeing any on Mark...and he is not under contract either.

Big difference, if you ask me, in the readiness category...Unless there are other reasons that I am unaware of.
