Staff writer Calvin Watkins analyzes a key Cowboys matchup for Week 3

Why him?
Over the last two seasons, only one player (San Diego's Shawne Merriman) accumulated more sacks than Kampman. Kampman had 27 sacks and Merriman had 29 . From the defensive end spot, Kampman uses his size (6-4, 265 pounds) along with power and quickness to push past tackles. Last week against Detroit, Kampman had 1 sacks and two quarterback hurries.

How he does it
He's very quick and strong. He uses his hands well to get tackles off him at the point of attack. If he needs to bull rush, he uses his legs effectively to push opponents away at the line of scrimmage. Kampman is good at handling double teams if he gets off fast, and quarterbacks must be aware of him.

How to stop him
A tall left tackle can keep Kampman away from the quarterback on passing downs by using his long reach. Sending a running back at Kampman to double team him slows the pass rush. Sometimes, taller tight ends can offset his pressure by hitting him or pushing him at the line of scrimmage. Quarterbacks can also use a three-step drop to get rid of the ball faster to avoid him and other oncoming rushers.

So they're saying the only way to stop Kampman is to double-team or just get rid of it before he can get to you? A healthy KGB coming in from the other side is hopefully going to make either option difficult to maintain for the whole game.

Of course, the numbers by Kampman and Merriman are in divisions with teams who do not have the quarterbacks that other divisions around the league have ... while I'm not taking away from their accomplishments, perhaps there is something to it that they're not the total threat they come across as.

I hated it when Jared Allen got all that hype. He's not even close to Aaron's strength or Ability.

Did anyone else catch their mistake??? A tall "left" tackle really won't help now would it..

But it is smart on their part to pay attention to Kampman.. he has been effective against almost all competition.

We can brag all we want about our defensive players, last year, we didn't put any real pressure on Romo. I saw some plays where he had six seconds in the pocket, which is not acceptable.

We're going to have to do something to get around that monstrous OL of his. Kampy's going to need some help from our LBs.

The owboys beat writers remember the beating the Cowboys took in the playoff game from the Giants where Romo was rattled and lost the game.

If Packers put the pressure on Romo, the Packers should DOMINATE this game.
