Speaking very selfishly here, I would like to say I'm rather touched by wpr's displays of emotion vis a vis his son. My father never would have gone on an internet forum and written about me like this, much less evinced any excitement that I had made it home. To this day he's still more interested in weaseling war stories out of me than expressing any sort of appreciation I made it back. I know it's unjust of me to say so, but sometimes I wonder if he even would have noticed if I came home draped in a flag. Your son is blessed to have you as a father, sir.

The sad fact is WAY too many father's are like that. Most because of the way they were raised. It's such a shame. My Dad was the opposite. He ALWAYS told me he loved me, and when I cried and tried to "be tough", he said to me "The shortest verse in the Bible is, "Jesus wept". Do you think you are tougher then he was if you don't cry? God gave you emotions for use." I never forgot that.......my Dad died of a heart attack when i was 16.
If I were you Nonstop, i would hug my Dad and tell him I love him. No matter WHAT strange look he would give you. Life is too short to leave things unsaid.....and then it's too late.
JMO of course.

This is amazing news WPR. I am always happy to see my bro just when he comes home from DC...I can't imagine the joy within your family now.
God bless your entire family and thank you to your son.

WE ARE TOGETHER ONCE AGAIN.

We didn't have it in time but I got my wife another t shirt that says,
"My son went to Afghanistan and all I got as a lousy T Shirt. One the back it has a silhouette of a camel.

My wife and I holding a welcome home banner.

In the background is our other banner that the neighbors are holding. (The kids still call them grandma and grandpa.)
