Charley Walters: Do the Green Bay Packers have Favre envy?
Pioneer Press
Updated: 09/01/2009 11:58:02 PM CDT

If Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy were watching Brett Favre quarterback the Vikings in Houston on TV Monday night, and it's expected they were, the Green Bay Packers' general manager and coach had to have glanced uneasily at each other and murmured, 'Uh-oh.'

It was merely an exhibition game, but it put Favre on display, and he showed he still has plenty of what it takes to win, especially with the Vikings.

Thompson and McCarthy two years ago figured it was time to move on without Favre, who turns 40 next month. But they were uncertain whether they were right that's why they included the poison pill prohibiting Favre from playing for the Vikings when they traded him to the New York Jets.

Now, Thompson and McCarthy have to be nervous. And some Packers rooters have to be wondering, too, about the decision to ingloriously dump their beloved future hall of famer.

Favre insists there was no Packers revenge motive in signing with rival Minnesota. But his display against the Texans strong, on-target passes and poised field leadership forecast that the Oct. 5 "real game" between the Vikings and Packers at the Metrodome should be one of the classics in sports history.

And in what should be even better, there will be the "Classic II" game between the Vikings and Packers three weeks later in Green Bay.

I hope I didn't put this in the wrong place, or it's been done already. I just found it humorous. Some how I don't think Ted Thompson and MM are saying "uh oh".

Don't think there was Uh-oh on their minds either based on Favre. Vikes defense is looking pretty stout against the run again, passing still has some holes. Peterson opening run was a big Uh-oh as well.

Other than that, and the 2 min drill drive, there was really not much to uh-oh over from the Vikes offensively.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

I was just about to post this.

This is the equivalent of Saddam Hussein puffing his chest out and thinking that America was shaking in its boots when he acquired some old, reworked scud missiles.

I don't think the game plan changes when playing the Vikings: try to shut down Peterson/Chester. Passing downs - blitz.

Maybe the author should have mentioned that Childress was probably saying 'uh oh" when Aaron Rodgers was moving the ball down the field with ease on almost every drive of every game so far. Or maybe how Childress was saying "uh oh" when he saw our defense forcing multiple turnovers every game, giving the Packers a +10 turnover margin through the first 3 games.

Good point!
I STILL laugh when i read how the Packers supposedly "dumped" Favre. He retired, unretired, the Packers were gonna let him come back as the starter, he quit again.
How is that "dumping" him?
I wish these so called "reporters" would get that straight. At least SOMETHING factual!

Message to Charley Walters:

Get over it. No matter what happens, no one is proving anyone wrong or right. It was the right decision to go with Rodgers when we did.

bahahaha! yeah right. *rolls eyes*

Way Rodgers Looked > Way Favre Looked

undoubtedly.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Dude, it's not even close. Favre completed maybe 1 downfield pass with zip on it. Everything else was dump offs or incompletions.

Zero2Cool (13m) : Jameson Williams is done at 24 years old? What? He's a WR, not QB. I'm missing something here haha
wpr (43m) : Tomorrow is almost here.
packerfanoutwest (56m) : would you want him if Pack needed a back up qb?
packerfanoutwest (58m) : JW is done......stick a fork in him
Zero2Cool (2h) : You should. He goes to AFC that helps Packers.
packerfanoutwest (13h) : don't care
Zero2Cool (18h) : Lions shopping Jameson Williams?
packerfanoutwest (22-Apr) : Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst says Green Bay’s roster can win, even without adding anyone in the draft.
Zero2Cool (22-Apr) : It's a poor design. New site has SignalR like our gameday chat
wpr (22-Apr) : Ah today's Shout was very quick to post.
wpr (22-Apr) : now 3
Zero2Cool (22-Apr) : Who? What?
beast (22-Apr) : What is he supposed to say? He doesn't want players currently on the team?
Martha Careful (21-Apr) : meh
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Sounds like Walker and Wyatt will be with Packers for beyond 2026

dfosterf (21-Apr) : Justice Musqueda over at Acme Packing put up an excellent synopsis of the Packers 1st round options this am
wpr (19-Apr) : 5 days
beast (18-Apr) : 6 days
wpr (17-Apr) : 7 days
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
