It's still remarkably odd that his agent would choose to tell the press that Collins was holding out, despite the fact he was dealing with the death of his father. One would think Collins wouldn't be too happy about that, as - before the details of his father's illness were publicised - people were speaking about Collins as a money-first kind of player who was jeopardising the Packers transition to the 3-4 with his hold-out.

Perhaps the Packers will wait until a few weeks into the season (as they appear to be doing with Kampman) before they consider extending Collins, whilst monitoring his transition to the 3-4. On paper, and in the pre-season, he looks like a perfect fit as a deep-lying, ball-hawking safety.

It's not odd. Agents are for one thing, money. They receive around 3% of their clients money. There's no question that Collins wants a new contract, who wouldn't in their last year of the current one? For his agent to use tragedy as a ploy in the media, awful. I'd have fired him personally, even if I wanted a new contract which was causing me to not show up for camp.

I agree Zero.
That was LAME to use something like that.
Just another reason to hate agents.

Agents=SCUM OF THE EARTH!!!!!!

I hope the Packer management sees the need to give Nick the extension sometime soon.

Nick is doing it right, letting them know he wants an extension but not griping publically about it.

I am betting news will come out before the mid point of this season.

The NFL is a business first and foremost, The Packers have a cap to stay under, the agents job is to get as much money for their clients they can, there is a dollar amount both can be happy with.

Let's hope it doesn't take too long to find that amount.

I might have publicly called out his slimy ass... it reflects on Collins poorly to be associated with it at all..

This is a relieving thread.
It makes me happy to know personally that Collins isn't a bad guy. Him and Jennings both worked there deals well in a professional way unlike a player like lets say a brandon Marshall would act in the same situation.

Its a terrible thing for Collins to have to deal with , the loss of his father i mean. I hope it doesn't affect his play on the field or hurt the kind of person he is.

It's possible his agent claimed he was holding out as a lighting rod to deflect media attention from the health problems of his father. I know if it were my father, I would hate to be grappling with media interviews about my father's health. I'd rather preserve my privacy by letting the public think my reticence was due to a contract dispute.

In other words, Collins may have directed, or at least tacitly encouraged, his agent to spearhead the disinformation campaign.

This is the only way I can see the situation over the summer to be acceptable. If it wasn't asked of him by Collins to steer the press a different direction then that agent is a despicable man.
