Even without being a mentor I think the best thing Brett ever did for Aaron was letting him sit and learn for 3 years. Look at Alex Smith.

I think Aaron would have had no problem winning over fans with his play last year even if Brett stayed retired. What I think had the biggest impact on Rodgers was his own hard work and study habits. Having a few years to work on that without being thrown into a game was a benefit but Rodgers success is all him.

Right on Zero! I'm one of those die-hards. I just bought an AR jersey & took down the "Brett Favre through the years" photo montage in my office. It might be "his" legacy, but it'll take a while before this old gal will be basking in the glow of it. Go Aaron! Go PacK! I say if Favre wants to wear purple, the D ought to make it so he's wearing it even when he removes the jersey! This, from a "True" Packer fan!

I agree that Favre's behavior this off-season has helped Rodgers somewhat, although I also agree with YERCELL and Stevetarded that most of the credit goes to Rodgers for playing well. He has also managed to refrain from giving the media any juicy quotes about this whole thing, although I'm sure it has been tempting at times. He has played the situation very well, making it look less difficult than it really has been.

I just joined this site, but can already tell the fans here have a great grasp on what it means to be Packer fans. This posting is a great example of someone who I think "gets it". Great job and I look forward to reading what the rest of you have to say soon.

I'll give you a hint 😛 put me on ignore right now yes right now because i love playing the devils advocate (even if at times it is just to do it) and people get pissy about it. So if you think you're going to be one of those people just hit ignore lol. Otherwise enjoy the site and don't be afraid to post anything on your mind.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Interesting perspective, but I'll just put it out there right here and now: I wouldn't respect the judgment of anyone who had to have Favre go to the Vikings in order to give Rodgers a chance to stand on his own merits. That's an exceedingly lame position to take.

I imagine I will live with this incessant frustration for years, like an inaccessible itch between the shoulder blades, until the blissful day when Rodgers' name is not inextricably intertwined with Favre's. Educated NFL fans don't reflexively mention Joe Montana's name every time the words "Steve Young" leave their mouth. When can we give Aaron Rodgers the same benefit of the doubt?

This may not be fair, but Rodgers will probably have to do the same thing that Young did: Win a Super Bowl. I don't hold him to that standard, because too much depends on the talent around him, but that's almost inevitably going to be the standard for most people.
