According to the Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, any Packer who uses Twitter in camp while on the clock will be fined the maximum amount of $1,701.

How the hell did they come up with that exact dollar amount?

There must be some significant meaning to 1701?

I'm guessing it's not significant, but rather probably a calculated nominal value based on whatever formula they've used to determine the maximum amount of a fine (e.g. 1/100 of minimum rookie wage or whatever).

In unrelated news, I'm paying just about that much for a new i7 computer/workstation soon.

By the way, $1,701 is a rather harsh penalty for training camp. According to this site , for the 2008 NFL training camp, rookies made $775 per week and veterans made $1,100 a week. So $1,701 would represent more than a week's salary even for veterans.

Again, I applaud this decision on the part of the Packers staff.

1701 -- it's homage to the anniversary of the formation of the Kingdom of Prussia.

Either that, or it's LisaNova's phone extension.

This means...during practice? I love to hear what the guys have to say after.

I know players get fined $17,000 if they skip a day of training camp. Maybe they want to fine them a little over a tenth of that.

Edit: I saw on Chad Ochocinco's twitter that he posted a picture of his team's practice schedule of an entire day of training camp. Bet the Bengals coaches weren't too happy about that.
