Jeff George says he can still play!

In case this Brett Favre thing doesn't work out for the Minnesota Vikings, or Matthew Stafford doesn't pan out with the Detroit Lions, Jeff George has a suggestion for a possible replacement: Jeff George.

"I feel like I can still play, and if there's someone out there to give me a shot, that would be wonderful," George told IlliniHQ.com.

"You look throughout the league, you see 20 teams that need quarterbacks, 20 teams need starters and probably everybody needs a backup. In my opinion, there's just not a lot of quality quarterbacks out there these days."

And George, who hasn't played a regular-season down for an NFL team since 2001, is looking to add one more name to that list.

Ive been trying to figure out how to get back in, and it just amazes me that Im not on somebodys roster. Ive been throwing two or three times a week, and every time I go out there to throw, I cant believe Im not a backup somewhere. I know its a young mans game, but you cant tell me Im not better than some of the quarterbacks that are out there. I look at teams like Minnesota or Chicago, and I want to scream at the people in charge, What are you thinking?

Yeah, sure. That's why you couldn't make it as the third string QB for the Raiders two years ago or didn't take that field at all with the Bears four years ago.

But if you look at teams like Minnesota... Hmmm..

I think George is about as good as Gus. Only, George has velocity.

I know, but c'mon, you expect to find an improvement in a guy who hasn't been able to make a team for the last 8 years. Or at least, he didn't take a regular season snap. 4-5 of them, he was actually trying.

Vick would be a better option. Actually, any FA QB would nearly be a better option. Trying to get Ricky Ray out of the CFL would be a better idea.
