okay Favre bashers (yes, Cheesey, you too!)

What id he decides not to play and comes out and says it was because he couldnt do it to his legacy as a packer.

Will you still bash him or give him kudos?

I'm far from a Favre basher, but I think those who do will whine about their wasted time reading and watching the drama. When in fact, they could have just changed the channel or avoid certain obvious hot spots about Brett.

Your question is something I posed many months ago as something I'd like to see/hear.

Trip you know the answer to that already they will praise him for not playing, I think the biggest thing the bashers fear is that he comes back and plays like he did in 2007 and the Vikes make a long run in the playoffs thus all the negative comments. I never heard people bashing sharper, Longwell, and fergie for going to the Vikes.

"Trippster" wrote:

Where were you? Under a rock???
People were bashing BOTH those guys for playing for the Queens.
You must have selective memory. Everyone was bashing Sharper, and laughing at him when DD BURNED him. I even made the "Darren Sharper seriously injured and sent to burn unit" thread.
Or how Logwell was just going to a dome cause he wanted to pad his stats. Did you miss all those threads???

And....i highly doubt he'd not play for the reason you stated. He already stated a motivating reason he played with the Jets was to show the Packers he could still win. He of course only ADMITTED that AFTER the season was over. Before that he didn't admit that, and kept saying it was only because he loved to play.
So my feeling is this: If he decides not to play, it's because of knowing he can't do it anymore. At least for a full 16 games. It won't have anything to do with the Packers. Although he may SAY it did, as a way of turning it around and using it for his own benefit. Me, I'm at the point where i just wish he'd make up his mind for once. The "song and dance" got old for me 3 years ago already. It's hard for me to understand WHY it takes him forever to make up his mind. Either you want to do it, or you don't.
If he does play, i hope he doesn't get hurt.
But i also hope he runs the Vikings into the ground. Thats NOTHING against him. I don't like it when Longwell kicks game winning FG's for them either.

Money is not an issue, as a source says that Favre and the Vikings have negotiated a one-year contract worth approximately $10 million. But the quarterback has not decided whether to sign it.

If money isn't an issue why does he need $10 million? Can't get by with $1 million? Ridiculous.

"dhazer" wrote:

Ok, sorry Engineer but I have to nimonate this post as the most insane of all.

Yeah, Brett, refuse the 10mil they are offering you and just take one mil.

WTF??????????

:eyeslam: :onfloor:

Preamble: Do you think I'm an idiot? Do you think I'd be so stupid as to accept less when more is offered? Of course not. Neither is Favre. My gripe with this situation is explained in the 3rd paragraph below.

Are you so naive as to think that the $10 million is the single offer, immediately accepted by Favre's agent Bus Cook? Of course there was negotiation. The situation here is that Favre was accommodating to the Vikings, if one can be so at a price of $10 million. $10 million dollars. TEN MILLION DOLLARS. FOR ONE YEAR.

Isn't the common argument that Favre should play because he wants to play? His childish love for the game knows no bounds? Tell me how is it that he should be so selfish as to fleece the Vikings for $10 million, when it is the desire to play (or in some opinions, to stick it to the Packers), or the arm injury, that is the deciding factor for playing or not? Why the need for more money, or money at all? Isn't what he's earned in his career enough?

"Favre should play if he wants to" is a complete farce.

Favre wants to play, (and here's the clincher) but at a nice round sum of TEN FUCKING MILLION DOLLARS. That's a pretty big caveat if I may say so.

Tell it like it is. Playing is a business decision and so is the money involved. It's not just Favre's love for playing. That's bullshit and doesn't tell the whole story.

So to all who say Favre should play because he wants to, I want to ask them if Favre would be so inclined if he were to do it for free. Of course not, so it really isn't just about playing then, is it.

The contradictory defence of Favre's character is what is ridiculous. He's a businessman and you can bet his agent is.

Edit: Want to point out that I'm not singling out any individual, but a lot of pro athletes for example say that Favre should play if he wants to.

Eng,

Of course you are not an idiot, nor did I say that.

Who in their right mind turns down more than they are worth? The only athlete I ever knew of that did that was Mark Fidrych of the Tigers back in the seventies, and he was nuts. really, he would skip over the foul line and walk around the mound talking to the baseball....constantly. The Tigers tried to renegotiate his contract and he said no he was already overpaid.

I love what I do but I would never do it for free. I want fair market value for my services. 10 Million is fair market value for a hall of fame QB who may be the missing link to a teams quest for the holy grail. Actually, I think they are getting a pretty good deal. Favre made ten mill 3 years ago with the Packers.

sure there was negotiations, but probably not much. Favre has all the leverage. as you stated, he sure does not need the money so the Vikings can't use that in their strategy.

Favre simiply is torn as to the right move. that is all. We all struggle with big decisions.

Well think of it this way if the Vikes would of gotten Brett under his old contract they would have had to pay him 13 million so yes 10 million is a deal. Hell it could be worse he could of gotten paid what Rodgers got paid last year for sitting on the bench for 3 years. $10 million for a Pro Bowl qb is pretty cheap i think.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

WOW, you are a Favre basher, I havent seen much in the way of talking good or positive about Favre, its most of the time negative. I don't care how long he takes to make up his mind if he wants to play or retire. Thats a huge decision. How does it effect me if he doesn't make up his mind right away? It doesn't, so who gives a crap. I sure hope he plays again, if he still feels he has what it takes GO FOR IT!! Every player in the NFL takes that chance of getting hurt week to week no different for Favre. And how can you say that "it's nothing against Favre when you say". "But I hope he runs the Vikings into the ground". I hope Brett does well if he plays again, I always root for a great player with a great heart.

I have a '95t Chrysler, it was once new, would you pay 15,000 for it?

I am curious to see how many make the connection here and realize how foolish your comment is. 🙂

Contracts are more so based on what you've done in the recent past linked to what you will do in the immediate future. Now, if anyone thinks that 22 TD's and 22 INT's is Pro Bowl worthy or that Brett's PLAY earned his spot there, you're sadly mistaken in my opinion.

Brett is an amazing talent, but he is no longer a "Pro Bowl" talent for 16 games in a season.

I do however think the 10 million is a fair price for both sides. Vikings always have to spend an extra dollar to convince players to wear those hideous uniforms right? lol

But then again you forget what he did in 2007 and the first 1/2 of 2008 before the injury. So i guess in recent future your referring to the last 6 games of 2008 right?

He can still get it done if his shoulder is fine plain and simple and they got him cheap.

I can actually see him throwing for around 330 yds 3 tds 1 int in both the games against the Packers.

Yes i know you guys will laugh because we have the awesome dbs right but what happened against the Saints last year or the Texans? Hell even the Lions could throw against us.

I would be OK if Brett did that. Mostly because I see Aaron throwing for 370 yds 4 tds and 0 int and Grant running in for 1 more in both games.
