in the last 2 seasons

Donald Lee 87catches 878yards 11TD
Greg Olsen 93catches 965yards 7TD

Yeah, Olsen is pretty good but I don't get the people always acting like it is some huge mistake that we didn't get him.

Keep in mind, though, that that includes one year of grooming him as a rookie. He didn't get much playing time. In his second year he was still sharing starts with their other respectable TE, Desmond Clark.

His second year was about the same as Donald Lee's career year as a full-time starter. I truly think that Olsen will eventually be worth that 1st round pick, if he isn't already. Lee, much like Shiancoe, was more of a one year wonder and has yet again been reduced to a strong red-zone target.

I think Lee hasn't been a full time starter but those 2 years also though. Olsen is also on a team where there are less other players taking targets from him. I am not even saying Lee is better I just don't see how Olsen is that much of an improvement over Lee that he would have been worth a 1st round pick.

I don't feel like Lee's numbers last year were really a reflection on his abilities but rather on the fact that Rodgers was a first-year starter who is still learning the ins and outs of the offense; the little intricacies like targeting and/or dumping the ball off to the TE. The role of the TE in this offense will become more important as Rodgers progresses as a QB.

Lee's numbers reflect that Rodgers prefers to dump the ball off to his runningbacks, opposed to Favre who would throw to our TE.

I disagree, a TE is a rookies QB'S best friend.

And are we really arguing who's better between Harrell or Olson? Harrell has probably contributed less to the GB team than any of the first rounders that year have given to thiers. Perhaps Jarvis Moss was worse than him but thats debatable as well.

Cut Cletidus Jamal Harrell in the first round of cuts and move on.

Brandon Jackson's receiving numbers went up by 50 and Grant's dropped by 30. I don't know if that's the problem. I have to admit, though, that there seemed to be a lot less plays aimed at the TE or that Rodgers just skipped them. Except for in the end-zone.

There might be a reason for that, though. Our TEs, in my eyes, are one of the weak points on the team. Lee had pretty much no plays that where designed around him. Finley had some fades and streaks to create match-up problems with LBs and CBs. Finley is the obviously the future and might beat out Lee even during this season.

There's a reason that he's been a career back-up, he's not that great of a TE. He's a decent receiver and a mediocre blocker, nothing more than that. I think that his one great year was an abnormality, just like Shiancoe's last year. Although that's still a guess.

first of all, Rodgers wasn't a rookie. second of all, while i would agree that the TE should be an inexperienced QB's best friend, that was not the case with Rodgers last season.

Why would a TE be the QB's best friend when that QB had a Greg Jennings....haha

dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.

Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
