Not the opinion I wanted to hear.. but.. take it for what it is.. an opinion.

Source of Course...

Images Justin Harrell took part in offseason workouts for the first time since being drafted by the Packers over two ago. Thats the good news. The bad news is that the former Tennessee standout is still struggling. He just doesnt move very well, opined a former scout who watched a number of practices this spring. Even in shells, he doesnt look particularly quick or explosive. I know he says the back is OK, but to be honest, he moves like a guy with a bad back. Harrell underwent surgery to repair a ruptured lumbar disc in April 2008 and then had a follow-up procedure four months later.

This is disappointing, but I guess you can't really be surprised when a guy with a long injury history repeatedly gets injured and/or takes a long time to heal.

First part of the recovery is physical. Second part is mental. He isn't fully recovered yet, imho.

I'll take anything we can get from him at this point, even a reserve/rotational role which he'll probably be relegated to this year on the interior of the line.

I have no expectations.

If he even gets on the field it will be great.

I'm not going to insult him or say anything other than I will be happy with any accomplishment.

I think this guy could yet become a real force on our D-Line. He has the ideal height, size and long levers for 3-4 DE.

When he has got on the field (2007) he was a force, attracting double teams.

In the 3-4 he's not going to rack up impressive sack numbers but if linebackers behind him are making plays the odds are he's doing his job.

He also may not start a lot, but having a solid rotation will improve the whole DLine.

As for Packer Update, I enjoy reading it but it's the weakest of all the media outlets (I'm not even sure it qualifies as a media outlet). It looks like a blog written by a semi knowledgeable fan. Most people on here could do as well.

It always quotes "a former scout" or similar. It's very easy to make up quotes when you don't attribute them to anyone. It's not as if the "scout for another team" is breaking some huge secret and needs anonimity.

At least JSOnline and GBPG actually get interviews with players, coaches etc.

I think calling him a force on the field when in the games is more than a little charitable.

My concept that his playing hurt could also be viewed as either being kind or plain flat wishful thinking.

I keep looking back and viewing the saga of Justin Harrell in the context of our D-line and the ups and downs of it, including the decision to part ways with Williams.

I thought it was a sound decision at the time, mostly having to do with a perception that Johnny Jolly having been hurt seemed to have a large impact on that d-line..much more so than if Williams was in or out of that rotation, and the same could be said for Harrell.

The expectation was that Justin would follow the path of most DT's and develop into an impact player around his third year...A classic scenario.

It just has not happened, and in the context of watching him eat up a roster spot in what has become almost wishful thinking at this point, I stick to the concept (I think Pack93z and I have the exact same position)...

End of training camp- Justin Harrell, I don't care if you are recovering from a lightning bolt strike while on your honeymoon in Jamiaca...You got until the end of this training camp to prove yourself worthy of eating up a roster spot.

Pack93z can always make you another signature, British. This guy and life's circumstances have arguably cost people their jobs already, and that process has possibly not ended if he does not start producing something seriously different than what he has to date.

Time to fish or cut bait, Justin, and no, you do not get to eat the friggin' fish you catch.

British--

I so want you to be able to hang onto that sig with pride. I hope you are one heckuva lot more right than I.

With as little prep time as he has had leading into the years he's been here it's hard to know what he can do but I would be surprised if he's not limited with injuries again that the talent isn't there.

I saw him only one time where he suited up for like three consecutive games and there were times in there he showed ability that suggests he could be better than this guy says if he can get out on the field.

That's the IF and nobody knows more than him he's got to stay healthy to have a shot at staying in the league. If he is able to stay away from injury I think he could be a pretty darn good football player contrary to what this guy is aluding to that even then he might only be a so-so player even if he's not hurt.

I am not ready to write off that he wouldn't contribute in a fairly substantial way by the middle of the year with some reps and no big owies. After all, he hasn't had a running start going into any season yet.

What I expect out of Harrell is what he has given us to date.. not much, that is based on more history than anything.

My hope was that he would be able to contribute at a rookie type level this season.. spot rotational work and providing a little depth without a ton of drop off.

My dream would be for him to realize some of his potential and become a strong part of the defensive rotation and in some cases elevating our overall play and building toward becoming a true factor..

But if he is sitting on a roster spot without showing much towards the end of camp.. I truly hope we cut the cord and our losses and move on.

dfosterf (26-Jun) : I think it would be great to have someone like Tom Grossi or Andy Herman on the Board of Directors so he/they could inform us
dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.
wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”

dfosterf (11-Jun) : There will be a mini camp practice Thursday.
Zero2Cool (11-Jun) : He's been sporting a ring for a while now. It's probably Madonna.
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : We only do the tea before whoopee, it relaxes me.
wpr (10-Jun) : That's awesome Martha.
Mucky Tundra (10-Jun) : How's the ayahuasca tea he makes, Martha?
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : Turns out he like older women
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : I wasn't supposed to say anything, but yes the word is out and we are happy 😂😂😂
Mucky Tundra (10-Jun) : I might be late on this but Aaron Rodgers is now married
Mucky Tundra (10-Jun) : Well he can always ask his brother for pointers
Zero2Cool (10-Jun) : Bo Melton taking some reps at CB as well as WR
Zero2Cool (10-Jun) : key transactions coming today at 3pm that will consume more cap in 2025
