Nice find. Well, I hit Ted for not doing things so to be fair I have to say good job getting this one done, Ted.

So basically this guarantees Jennings under contract for the next four seasons. Sounds good to me. This was certainly priority No. 1. It'll be interesting where GB looks now that they got this one just about out of their way.

Lets get this thread title changed to "Jennings Signs Contract (Page 4)" or something.

Jennings is worth 8 mil a year. The market has become that. I think Jennings is a top ten receiver who is going to get better. With the cap GB has, they should frontload a lot of that money too. His salary cap figure should rise to probably No. 2 or No. 3 on the team behind Aaron Rodgers.

LOL.. I said it is debatable whether he is a top 10 receiver.. I can make the argument again if you would like.. he is not a lock IMO of a top 10 receiver in the league today.. sorry.. just the way I see it.. fringe of the top ten to just making it.. but at 8 million making more than a lot of them in the top 10..

Can you name ten better?

Moss, Fitzgerald, Boldin, A. Johnson and I would say in time C. Johnson are the givens.

After those five though it gets kind of thin. Some like Steve Smith and others like Wes Welker. Roddy White isn't bad and TO is ok. I think I'd take Jennings over all of them outside of my Smith.

In a league where Clay Matthews and B.J. Raji will probably make more money than say Ryan Pickett and Aaron Kampman, Jennings getting paid for being a prove commodity and doing it with two different quarterbacks at that rate doesn't bother me. The market is high for receivers and you can't let a player like Jennings slip away.

Even for 7 or 8 mil a year.

I didn't really doubt that T.T. would get this done, but I was getting annoyed that it was dragging on. From an ingorant and impatient observers stand point (e.g. me) it appeared that T.T. wasn't being very proactive about the negotiations.

Again, I'm a big T.T. advocate, but he has the justified stigma of being a tightwad, so to ensure there isn't a mass exodus of talent from GB, I think he needs to pay the players that deserve it...high character guys that produce, and nobody could epitomize that more than Jennings, so I'm very happy he's being rewarded!

Packers | Nearing three-year deal with Jennings

Updating previous reports, John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Green Bay Packers are close to a contract extension with WR Greg Jennings that would run through the 2012 season. Jennings could make $27 million in new money with the deal but could be worth as much as $30 million based on performance, according to a source. The two sides have agreed to the numbers but some of the language of the contract has to be worked out.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Here are my comments before on the exact same matter... just for reference. Driver vs Jennings..

Is he really in the top 10? I would challenge that openly.. here is just a few names that pop that could arguably be placed ahead of Jennings at this point.. you can argue point on one or two of them.. but staking a claim to a top 10 receiver openly isn't a slam dunk.

Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals
Randy Moss, Patriots
Andre Johnson, Texans
Reggie Wayne, Colts
Calvin Johnson, Lions
Anquan Boldin, Cardinals
Steve Smith, Panthers
Lee Evans, Bills
Roddy White, Falcons
Terrell Owens, Bills
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Seahawks

Would I take all of them over Jennings.. probably not.. actually most I would rather have Jennings complete package (on and off the field) than some of the others.. but that doesn't change the fact that as a pure football player his numbers don't stand out.

My point is Packer nation seems to worship the ground upon which Jennings feet lay... he is a talented receiver without a doubt.. but he isn't a HOF candidate in the making at this moment.. but he has plenty of years ahead of him to change that..

"pack93z" wrote:

Again.. I am not in the least upset that we ponied up the money to retain him.. but my opinion is he is not a top 5 receiver right this moment and one could challenge the statement that he is a top 10 receiver.

But alot of this contract is on the hope that a year or two from now he is without question a top 5 receiver in this game.. if not.. Jennings got the better end of the deal.

Again.. not a horrible deal.. we didn't horribly over pay the guy... but it is tad elevated on potential.

As far as overpaying rookie.. just because there is a flaw in the current CBA doesn't mean we have to be flawed all the way through the contract scale. A large share of the reason there was an opt out is not just to haggle over a percentage of the overall take.. but to correct this very issue.. the rookie pay scale imbalanced to the veterans chunk of the players pool and the ridiculous risks ownership takes with draft players..

I think only 3 other WRs have scored more TDs than Greg in the last 2 years combined. I do think Greg is a top 10 WR because he excels at every aspect of the game.

That being said you don't pay a player based on where people have them ranked. You pay a player based on what they are worth to your team. That is why I don't think we overpaid for Greg. The team is still young and Greg sets a good example with both is attitude and his ability. That is exactly the type of player that is crucial to have on a team like the packers and that's why they showed him the $$.

Does anybody honestly think if Greg hit the open market he would make less than what we paid him? I think we actually got a good deal. 🙂

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife

Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
