3.9 is not far from 4.0 which is considered to be a good average. I think most of us were expecting him to pick up where he left off prior season. Then watching him 2008, he simply would not break tackles.

4.0 is average to me. That means that everything below 4.0 is, well, below average. Maybe I'm holding to high a standard, but I would be hapier if he could at least get towards 4.5.
It's not all about the average, anyway. Look at how horrible he played one week nd how good the next. Althoug he never really awed me. I'd like a little more concistency. A running game is something you should be ableto build upon. We're far from that. One game he's averaging 1.3 per gain against the Lions, the next one he's averaging 5.6. Same goes for the Bears. One game he goes for 5.8 and the next one for 2.4 per gain.
Of course, all the backs have up and down games, but even his good games weren't amazing, apart from that blow-out against Chicago.
I think that it might be more subjective than anything else, since we where a very respectable 12th in the league in rushing yardage. I just think that we could do better with just a little help from the O-line. Grant needs that. He's no Barry Sanders.
