Who do you think will win the OLB spot opposite of Kampman. The poll on the side got me thinking.

I definitely think it will either be Jeremy Thompson or Clay Matthews III. I just voted Thompson because I like him, I guess, haha. I don't know what it is, but I have a feeling that he will win it.

I think Matthews will be rotating in and out with him, while Poppinga backs up Kampman.

Maybe Thompson and Matthews get around the same playing time, with one of them being the starter? I don't know.

What do you think?

I think opening day it will be Thompson, with Matthews being the eventual starter.

Also i think Chillar is an ILB and will play that position soley, i see him as the top backup to both Hawk and Barnett, and likely getting some playing time in sub packages as well.

The competition in training camp will be incredible this year. Everyone around the country doubts the Packers now and thinks their defense will still be predictable. I would like this team to prove them all wrong.

We need to wait to see how they do with pads on. I still give the edge to Thompson, but Matthews may look more promising with dropping into coverage.

I think that it might depend. Thompson is more of a 3-4 OLB like Shaun Phillips. He can drop back a little, but he's not the guy you look for to cover the RB in the flat or something. He has some cover skills, but I think that rushing is his fort.

I think that it might be more of a rotation than having one solid starter. At least for the first few games or even the first year.

I agree. With all the sub-packages Capers will be throwing out there I would guess it will mean about the same PT for Thompson and Mathews. I do see Mathews moving up over time and being a key factor in a much more productive defense as time goes.

I think the key is we have more depth now and will have better sub-package personnel on the field than we have had in the past. I also believe our LB coverages will be more effective than we have seen it. I didn't like them in all that man especially when we weren't getting to the QB. You can't expect a LB to cover a TE running all the way across the field and the QB standing back there throwing strikes.

Man with every post WarHawk I realize more and more how many simple things went weird last season, and that all the work this offseason has been in a way to correct those things. You are like the perfect press secretary for the Packers with your posts for me.

I think Matthews will win the job in the end and Thompson will be moved to the other side to back up and eventually replace Kampman.

Yea, maybe we should try and get a 1st round pick next season for Kampy and get him back to a team that has the 4-3 where he fits in better.

Kampmann and Thompson. If Matthews proves he can play, Kampmann's contract negotiations may become very interesting next season. Anybody smell a sign and trade besides me?

I wouldn't rule out Brady moving inside once in a while. Where does Danny Lansadah(sp) fit in this picture?

Who misses the days when our linebackers included guys named Hannibal Navies and Jude Waddy?

Both Thompson and Matthews will see playing time. My guess is Matthews will eventually win it unless Thompson starts to look like a double digit sack guy. Thompson has been very good I guess in OTA's so it should be interesting how he looks come training camp and pre-season. I think he's really starting to intrigue me because I didn't think he was going to be be a starter. I thought it'd be between Brady Poppinga and Clay Matthews.

None the less, Matthews' ability to drop in coverage should get him on the field sooner rather than later. I could see him inside or outside. I think you could see him move inside on passing downs and Thompson come in and rush the passer on passing downs.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
