A-Rod has had a tough gig?

Are you kidding?

First off, he was a first round draft pick who was allowed the time to sit behind ones of the best QB's ever for several years and then GIVEN the starting job.

The fans were aware how hard it was going to be to follow Favre LONG before Favre left. When the time came a good portion of fans over-corrected and now coddle him as he is a new born baby.

How bout a 5th round draft pick who has to step in and actually earn himself a starting job. How about a first year rookie thrown into a starting position on a terrible football team. How about Matt Cassell who had to step in on the fly in place of Brady. If you think he had it tough, I would say thats insane. He has had an easier road to the NFL than a good portion of QB's have traveled.

He played decent for a first-year starter but he's had plenty of time in the system and failed to deliver in some clutch situations. He is defended by some like an over-protected child for NO other reason than he followed Brett. He could also do himself a favor by shutting his mouth at times because he comes off as a spoiled little brat.

Your last paragraph is perfect example as to what people have issues with. It has nothing to do with the post at hand and is your attempt to slam Rodgers..

Any ways..

Which one of your examples had kids yelling at them at practice, which one of those had rallies out side of their stadium in support of the old q/b.

Which one of those had every sports outlet camped out at the stadium for the entire summer?

Which one of those had every sports out let comparing the 2 q/b side by side each week?

Your examples have some merit but they really can not compare to what he had to go through.

am I saying he deserved to be coddled because of it? HELL NO, he is in the big boys league and has to get thick skin.

I say your examples fall short of the pressure Rodgers had

Great Point, RP. You start the best threads.

I don't know if it was worse than what Rodg has went through in the first year, but I certainly think it's worse overall... Donovan McNabb has put up with more irrational hating, unfair scrutiny, and just plain headaches than any QB I can think of. I am shocked SHOCKED that he is going to extend his time in Philadelphia. Clearly he is a masochist.

Oh, yes. I still can't believe that he didn't flee after the first 5 years full of hating fans and what not.

Anyway, I agree with Steven Young. The situations are nearly identical. He had to win a SB to win a lot of fans over. Maybe the same will be true for Rodgers. Just wait untill we have an Alex Smith at QB and fans will be looking back at two great QBs if Rodgers keeps playing like this.

I see the rest of the Rodgers lovers making excuses but they forget the days of Young and Bradshaw the media wasn't as big as it is now. I hear stories all the time how everyone hated Bradshaw and they had a qb that actually played better than he did. The McNabb one was a great example. I don't feel sorry for any player and the so called pressure, hell the kind of money these players make is outrageous and all players will be yelled at by fans at one point or another.

Like the Great late Dale Earnhardt told Jeff Gordon, If the fans are booing you then you are doing something right.

Now the Rodgers fans can go back to their loving of him.

I still say let the kid play a few years and see where he stands before you talk about greatness.

btw before you all say he had the best ever 1st year starter stats i think you better check again

4353 yards 41 tds and 13 ints seems to be better to me :p

oh ya forgot the fav stat that people try to use to judge a qb the passer rating, well this qb finished with a 109.2
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

First, I didn't read the entire post. I lost my ambition to continue reading after this quoted portion. You're sick of the 'first year starter' BS just as most of us are sick of hearing how it's Aaron's fault we didn't win ANY come from behind games. The fact is, Rodgers didn't pull the Packers to victory from behind in the last minutes of any game last season and another fact that you and others have to get over, he was a first year starter, period.

Moving on now ...

I did in no way say that this was the same as Alex Smith. I say that, if we get back in the same QB mess as the 49ers are now after Rodgers retired and Rodgers will go on play like he did his first year, that we'll be looking back on this and say we where pretty damn lucky to have two great QBs after eachother.

In no way did I say that Rodgers is already as good as Young. In no way did I compare his first year to Alex Smith.

And I don't think that it's anyone feeling sorry for these players. It's more that they get treated in ways that they don't deserve. McNabb has been leading a perenial contender, yet, gets nothing but crap from the Philly media and fans.

Rodgers has done nothing wrong and has played a very solid season, yet, is nearly the anti-christ in some peoples eyes because he's following up Favre.

Young had done nothing wrong either, yet, he was second guessed the entire team untill he won a SB because he followed up Montana.

I don't know man. Some good suggestions have been made in this thread, with Young the best that I could come up with as well, but with the retirement/unretirement drama, the fans spitting curses at Rodgers, the worship of his predecessor, I don't know if anyone else reaches quite that level of pressure. I know I felt like I was going to have a heart attack before/during the week 1 game against Minnesota, that's for sure.

First off Rock i wasn't making a dig at you it's just you responded to bozz and i wanted to reply to both your posts, Yes i did take the Alex Smith wrong i thought you were saying Smith sucked when i think he really didn't get a fair shake.

The best example i still say is MCNabb can you imagine what it must have been like to be booed on draft day? Btw in case some of you don't know but the Eagle fans are true assholes and haters, They are so bad they actually have a jail and a judge right at the stadium.

Lots of players have been booed at draft day, especially by Philly fans. Classy bunch, those fans. I'm glad they exist... at least our fans over the past few years haven't tossed batteries (yet). Harrell's reception was as cold as McNabb's. It's not on par with the *pressure* Rodgers had on him, I don't think.

First the Rodgers comments: Those bashing him seem to forget that every single weekend on every single network was a favre v rodgers comparison and every throw in practice or game, was scrutinized as 'what would favre do.' That's a sh1tty sh1tty situation to walk into no matter how you shake it, and no doubt he has flaws, but he certainly exceeded my and many other's expectations given the circumstances.

Now to the original thread. I think any 1st round draft picks are subject to this where they're expected to waltz right in and carry the team on their shoulders. Ryan Leaf, Eli (esp. being in the NY market) Joey Harrington, maybe Todd Marinovich...all people whose position I would not envy.

Matt Cassell last year with the Patriots... Brady is dropped in the opener and everyone believes the Pats are done.. the pressure that was placed upon Cassell was every bit equal to that of Rodgers.

Listen I am proud of Rodgers last season.. he played above most people's expectations but it wasn't a 'god' like effort either. He had been in the same system for three years as an understudy and was ready for the challenge.

Oh, and please don't try to argue that the receiving core in NE is that superior to GB, while Moss might be better than Jennings, Driver is every bit the player Welker is and we are deeper.... hell they struggled with the running game too.

There is plenty of room for Rodgers to improve and I am excited to see how it plays out this season..

Just to present an opposing argument, Brady goes down and if Cassell can't keep the team going, it's just a lost season for the Patriots. It still kind of was, given that they didn't make the playoffs. Nobody expected him to be able to take over for Brady as a career QB. And now Brady is back.

Still, Cassell had one year to prove himself and hopefully get a deal worked out (I still can't believe Kansas City fell for it).
