Yup.
Once they tax cigarettes to the point where people stop smoking because they just can't afford it, millions of dollars in tax money will be lost.

Why should us non smokers care?
Because guess what......our great government NEVER likes to lose money. So i can GUARENTEE they will find a way to make up for that lost tax revenue.
Maybe tax beer at a dollar or two a can? Think it can't happen?

The argument would be the government would save billions of government dollars spent on medical services for smokers with out health insurance, which is probably a high percentage of smokers.

However, I agree Cheesey... Even if they saved that money, they will still look to take in the same amount and maintain the incoming revenue on that side of the books.

I have family members that smoke. They are paying 6 bucks for a pack of smokes. I smoked back in the 1970's, and it was 50 cents a pack. MOST of the money for them goes to taxes. The government makes a bundle on people's addictions.
And look at the gas tax. If they took away the state and federal tax on gas, it would drop the prices to us alot. But of course they will NEVER consider that!
I guess my smoking in the past, i can understand both sides of the argument. I ALWAYS had consideration for the non smokers around me. For me, it was just common sense to consider others. If everyone thought that way, there wouldn't be any need for these laws.
