He is going to be one of our starting defensive ends........do you think that he will be able to hold up a couple of blockers so that Kampy or Matthews can get to the QB?

I hope so. He is the perfect size, weight wise, might be a little short but I think he'll do.

I'm worried that he might not come back to full strength and could struggle in this scheme.

Thoughts?

He's the guy I'm not worried about. Only his pass-rushing abilities require double coverage. If his main purpose is to take two O-linemen away, I think he'll pass pretty easily. I don't want to make any too bold statement, but I think he can be one of the best 3-4 DE's in the game.

The other side, I'm more worried about. I still don't have that much trust in Pickett. Especially not if he has to take on a big run blocking right tackle and right guard. I think that he might struggle immensely if he loses the battle for NT.

Hmmm....that's interesting. I think Pickett can dominate as a DE, but I have no clue, I've never seen him play in a 34. I think with out question he'd be a better NT, but he has to beat out Raji, which I don't know he can do.

I think Pickett will be fine there actually. He played a similar role in our previous defense of holding up blockers to let the LB's make the plays and I certainly didn't see him get moved off his spot much.

I think this guy is a really good player and has done a great job in a very unsung role and if others did their job as well as he has our run defense would have been MUCH better. I also think his role as DE will be much more like what he has been asked to do the last few years.

I wouldn't bet against him that's for sure. Good football player.

Agreed. Pick has been very underrated, which mostly proves how non-glamorous his role has been. He and Woody have been excellent additions to the team in pretty much every respect.

I think Jenkins best scheme to play in is the cover 2 as a DT, but that's not to say he can't play DE in the 3-4. He can and I think he'd be a pretty good player at that position. My main concern with him is he needs to get healthy and improve against the run. I know he can be a decent pass rusher even from the five technique which is rare in the 3-4 defense, but you need those three down lineman to be absolute stout against the run. Jenkins is not that quite yet.

I said in the beginning of '08 that he would be a Pro Bowler in '08. He got hurt, but dang, he was looking awesome before his injury.

If he's in the same shape he was in early '08 and in good health, I'm not concerned about Cullen Jenkins whatsoever. I fully expect him to produce, and yes, hold off blockers for Kampy and Matthews (and have some sacks for himself too).

I think he's quite able to do it. He doesn't have to really pash rush and give up a bit on the run that way. I know my explenation seems somewhat simple and uneducated, but I really think that'll just make a lot of difference for Cullen.

For the rest of my comments, see my last post. To lazy to retype stuff or so.
