Day 2 Mock Draft

This was a lot more offensive players than I expected

1.23 WR Golden
Deep speed with sub 4.3 speed, but also versatile and can be used in many different ways.

2.54 DT Sanders
Physical pass rushing penetrator at the 3 tech to get in the backfield

3.95 OL Belton
Large and physical college LT, which I believe can be a developmental OT, or maybe day 1 starter at OG. He doesn't have the best quickness to keep up with speed rushes on the outside, but if he can get his hands on people, seems like he can move anyone.

4.124 DT Pegues
The extremely versatility DT has literally played all DL roles, from NT to 4-3 DE and everywhere in between... and on top of that, has been a short yardage RB/FB/wildcat QB on offense. Originally he was a highly recruited TE, and he's still got that initial quickness, though, he needs to get better at hitting second and third moves if the first stalls. But he can handle a wide range of roles, even if he's not nessarily elite in any one category.

5.157 TE Evans
TE Musgrave is often injured going back to his highschool days... and you know what's better than one Kraft like TE? Two Kraft like TEs! No, Evans might not be as good as Kraft, but I don't think that he's that far off. He can block and catch, though might not be knock for going down field much.

5.168 WR Thornton
Mixed bag here... on one hand, he's only got one year of more than 370 yards, and in that tone good year, he basically only ran 3 routes, basically he's a one trick pony, and simply cover 2 coverage can shut him down... on the other hand, he's 6'4½" 205lbs, and runs a 4.30, does a good shut making sure catches aren't contested, and at times he can block well. It might be a boom or bust pick, but it's outside the top 150... and even if we lose Watson, we'll still have two WRs that can burn it down the field, and one can be a decoy for the other... you know, assuming they can develop Thornton's routes to more than 5... he doesn't have to be able to run them all though, but more than 3.

6.198 OT Travis
6'8", 340 lbs, Graduate of Princeton, focusing on Legal, Political, and Economic, before transferring to Iowa State. Said to be absolutely amazing off the field and in the locker room.

For the NFL, he's development talent, as while he's huge, being too big can be a negative, as he's never have the leverage advantage, and while his arms are longer, he's taller than his arms are long, hurting his reach, especially against rusher that can rush while staying low, and average foot quickness. But if you can develop his skill set, he's athletic for his size.

7.235 CB Smith
Gute doesn't like small, he might not love huge, but he doesn't like small... and since Hafley has joined, the Packers seem to love slot CBs, and been putting those slot CBs at outside CB.

Smith was primarily a slot CB until 2024 when he got moved to outside and exceeded outside very well, specializing in man coverage. He's have to get more comfortable in zone coverage, but based on some of the things Hafley has said, it seems like he believes you can coach guys up for zone coverage easier than you can man coverage. Also very good against the run and should be able to contribute to STs.

7.237 CB Hill
I'll be surprised if someone doesn't reach for Hill, he's big, he's physical and in a straight line, he's shockingly fast... BUT outside of a straight line, he's average speed, and not the best coverage instincts, which basically means he's horrible in man coverage (unless matched up with a possession WR that lacks quickness or TE), but he still has major potential as a zone, off CB or Safety, who sits back until the QB get rid of the ball, and then rally to the ball. Also potential great on STs. Just need to limit his need to change of direction as much as possible. But while he's always been an outside CB, he might be good in a number of Safety roles.

7.250 RB Sanders
Yes, I know we don't need another RB, we have 3 decent ones and that's not counting last year's 3rd round pick Lloyd. But Lloyd hasn't been able to stay healthy yet, and RB is an often injured position and Sanders might potentially be a steal.

6', 215lb, with 4.46 speed, who has success at both Arkansas and South Carolina (SEC) schools as a three down RB. Maybe lacks the ideal quickness, but surprising agility for his size once he gets it moving and like a lot of bigger guys, mainly anyone cut RB.

1. Re trench building, I am hopeful that we address that in these rounds. In Kraft and Tom, Gutey et al have (recently) found good value. I am particularly concerned on OLine depth. The guys that we trotted out in the playoff loss to Philly should be the 10th and 11th guys on the roster, if that.

2. Viewing - tonight will be far more enjoyable with only 5 minutes for each team to choose.

3. If Will Johnson CB Michigan continues to drop, at what point is it worth taking a chance? 3rd round? 4th?
Go Packers!!!!

dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”
