Well, I don't think the other teams in our division have done enough to improve more than we have by virtue of the fact we needed to improve the defense and pass rush and the collective moves in coaching staff and personnel will get this done.
I will go full-cycle here and just say I agree with Raider in that we need to be ready in week one and take advantage of a weak schedule thru the break.
Every team in the North has their crosses to bare and I don't think they have done enough to offset the fact we were a blocked and missed FG from cleaning the slate in the North last year.

Chicago got a better QB but they still don't have the WR's, their OL is ancient, and their defense is overrated and they didn't do much over there to get better.

The Vikings are the Vikings of last year by not fixing the QB position. They are still beatable thru the air and we have even managed to run it pretty good against them. Let's not forget they will not have some pretty important players the first part of the year either.

The Packers have the best pass defenders in the North and even though people want to beat on our OL we were far and away the best offense as well. For me it's exciting knowing Arod will definately be better for having a year under his belt and our WR core blows the rest of the division off the map.

The key to '09 is taking advantage of the schedule and getting up in the standings early. Chicago kicks off with us and then the Steelers and the Vikes are without some studs on defense early. The schedule couldn't be better for us in that we won't have to play perfect to win alot of those games and I expect our defense to jell over time and allow us to be competitive with the better teams we play late.

I agree warhawk ... nice post. It's one thing to fire the coaches (defense) ... and then its another thing to hire guys that will totally change our play for the better and thats what I feel was done; and will be the biggest changes we have had this offseason.

IMO our O hasnt changed much; well hopefully we get a bit better Oline. But our D ... cant wait.

Imagine how many picks we will get now that we can get to the opposing QB more.

Has the season started and i didn't know it? I'm seeing silly comments about the defense, like now we can pressure the qb and our dbs will get alot of picks, or we have a tough defense now..

If changing a dc and scheme makes your defense better why don't more teams do it? If Capers is so great why wasn't he signed by anyone else? Playing devils advocate to some silly posts but i would like to hear about this.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

- sanders D blew; most teams could read our blitz - we hardly got any pressure on opposing QBs

- Our LBers had a pretty rough time; missed assignement or poor tackles

- injuries that had a big impact. Jenkins and Barnett

.......

- 3-4 run by capers ... a D made to stop the run; one of our worst stats

- Players are getting healthier jenkins barnett

- Some new D players that will only help our D

- Other D coaches that can only improve our D; kevin greene (who wouldnt want to be coached by kevin greene)

- 3-4 D is made to confuse the opposing O; more sacks and better domination; short yard throws are the downfall thou; hence our Lbers will need to be up to speed.

The only negatives from last season to this season in regards to our D that I can see are

#1 Not sure on jenkins barnett's health conidtion
#2 Can kampman play OLBer even if its only 50% of the time (3-4)
#3 Can our guys get used to playing the 3-4
#4 Getting collins signed

thats the Only negatives I see and if we can answer yes to all the above I dont see any reason why our D will not do much better this year.

there wont be any sillyness going on next season when we start tackeling RBs in the backfield and put pressure on cutler and rosenflop.

That there still remains a mystery why Moss still has a freaking job yet today.

If there was infighting amongst the Defensive staff.. how isn't he a problem in that infighting.

Scheme or not, the linebackers played tentative reactive ball.. not what I expect to see out of a hard nosed defense.. getting beat is one thing.. getting beat before you react is another.. piss on the scheme.. make a damn play for your ball club.

The play of the linebackers last couple of years at times was embarrassing.. if those inside backers struggle this year.. you better believe I will be back upon the criticizing Moss train.

But I have confidence in the ability of Capers and the collective team that has been assembled around him.. if there is a problem in the coaching style yet in the middle.. I fully expect it to be resolved post haste.

There are SOME people saying the team will fight with Detroit for last place, or that the Packers will be lucky to win 8 games.

How is that any different then what your worrying about?

Please forgive those who are optimistic. I know you don't understand optimism because we didn't draft who you wanted, but some fans, believe or not, have hope. :)

To your point which is a good one. Capers took time off as HC. I'm not sure if he said that because he was not being offered anything or what. But his track record as a DC and turning Defenses around I believe is pretty good.

running game. I dont believe grant should be the starter. I think Brandon Jackson is the better Rb. Also deshawn wynn should get more playing time, at the end of the season he did what grant didnt do all year, a big run.
brandon jackson is amazing

"Silly" comments? Because some refuse to take the "doom and gloom" attitude you have towards the team?
You can CHOOSE to try to look at it as positive moves, or "woe is me" at every turn.
Our D stunk.......we have changed the DC and scheme, and added some players and changed some players positions.
Will it work? Who knows. "On paper", i think it looks pretty good, and gives me great hope that our D will be greatly improved. But ONLY the season will show how it works out.
Some choose to see things for the great possibilities, instead of "the sky is falling".
Now.......if i didn't see the changes that were made, I might have the same doom and gloom attitude. But they DID address the problems. Hopefully, they will shock you and be dominant.
If not, you can rub our collective noses in it.........(which you probably would do if it happens!)LOLOL!!! :thumbleft:

Is it being negative or looking for the logic behind the optimism?

I don't think Dom Capers can turn this defense around because I think their is a talent problem. I worry about our aging corners. Harris's decline has started and C-Wood is bound to slow down sometime. I don't know what Raji will bring to the table as a rookie or how Kampman will adjust. Will Hawk break out? Will Barnett be at 100% and improve on his past mistakes?

Their are lots of ????? on Defense. If you put a tarp over a leaky roof does it solve the problem or just make it look like you made an attempt to do so. Sanders was a god to most in 07 and now he's the fall guy. I think the talent, and lack of depth is the problem.

Then you are the type that sees it as glass half empty where as lot of us see it as half full

I say did the team address the issues with the D last year? On paper it sure as hell looks like they are trying to fix it, or would you say they arent?

Zero2Cool (3h) : Malik to start. Love inactive. Per report. Let's go!!
buckeyepackfan (3h) : I think J-10VE will be inactive, a little twist that could be put in is run a wildcat with Wicks at qb. Have him as emergency qb if needed.
Zero2Cool (19h) : I think that's how it works.
Zero2Cool (21h) : I'd go 3 QB regardless this game.

Mucky Tundra (15-Sep) : Zero, what I meant was that surely a tech and IT genius such as yourself would find a way to change the pick
Zero2Cool (15-Sep) : Well, I mean, I know I did, but might not have waited for it to register and went into Chat. Oh well
Zero2Cool (15-Sep) : Or so I thought I did. lol
Zero2Cool (15-Sep) : I had Colts for few days to throw everyone off. At 11am or so, I changed it to Packers.
