The Green Bay Packers announced the signing of 12 players to the practice squad on Wednesday, the first day teams can start filling out the practice squad after final cuts.

QB Sean Clifford
RB Nate McCrary
RB Ellis Merriweather
WR Julian Hicks
TE Messiah Swinson
OL Lecitus Smith
OL Donovan Jennings
DL James Ester
DE Deslin Alexandre
CB Kalen King
CB Robert Rochell
K Alex Hale (International Player Pathway)

So the list above was the Packers original announcement of the PS. WR Jalen Wayne has since been added as well.

So they still have 4 more spots to be filled.

Interesting they didn't sign a single LB. Rumor they wanted to sign LB Kristian Welch, whom ended up signing with the Ravens. I wonder if the Packers and Ravens got into a bidding war, or if he got offers from both and selected the Ravens offer (which he was with the Ravens before he joined the Packers).

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they signed a Safety.

But maybe they wanted to sign LB Welch and S Johnson but they were claimed or joined other teams.

And then there were 2 spots left open on the PS.

Packers signed S Omar Brown and LB Chris Russell to the practice squad. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions on Thursday.

Also wonder if the same might be true for S Johnson, but I assume they knew he probably wouldn't make it through waivers after he started off as a starter.

I was a fan of S Omar Brown in the lead up to the Draft. Was a small school starting CB, then transfered to a large school and became their slot and dime LB hybrid player. I think his style fits this defensive scheme well, though so many Safeties in front of him I doubt he'll get on the field anytime soon.

I'm sure this won't be the end of roster moves. This too is from APC

According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Green Bay Packers made a flurry of moves on Friday that fully filled the team’s 17-man practice squad for the first time this season. The Packers placed running back Nate McCrary on the practice squad injured list, a sort of modified injured reserve, which means that he no longer counts against the 17 players that Green Bay is allowed to keep on the practice squad. McCrary’s injury hasn’t been disclosed as of yet.

With McCrary out of the picture, the Packers had three available practice squad spots to use. They chose to use all three, signing running back La’Mical Perine, fullback Andrew Beck and cornerback Kamal Hadden on Friday.

Perine is a former New York Jets fourth-round pick who has been signed to six clubs now in five seasons. While he did record 64 carries for 232 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie, Perine has only played in seven regular-season games since the end of the 2020 season. With AJ Dillon on season-ending injured reserve and rookie third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd still missing practice with a hamstring injury, the Packers need as much running back help as they can get, though.

On the flip side of the experience front, fullback/tight end Andrew Beck has 66 regular season games under his belt, including 22 starts — 12 of which came last year with the Houston Texans. Beck is a candidate to get promoted off of the practice squad eventually, as he’s played 994 special teams snaps over his NFL career. It’s not rare for the Matt LaFleur-era Packers to keep four tight end-type bodies on the active roster. Right now, the team only carries three.

Hadden is a 2024 rookie who was drafted in the sixth round by the Kansas City Chiefs before being waived at cutdowns. He’s the third cornerback to join the practice squad, which makes the room a little crowded, but he should be able to compete for the sixth cornerback job this season.

beast (11h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (11h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (20h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (20h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (23h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
