Offense
QB (2): Love, Clifford (2)
RB (3): Jones, Dillon, Goodson (5)

WR (6): Watson, Doubs, Toure, Reed, Wicks, Heath (11)
TE (4): Musgrave, Kraft, Deguara, Davis (15)

OT (5): Bakhtiari, Tom, Nijman, Jones, Walker (19)
IOL (5) Jenkins, Meyers, Runyan, Newman, Rhyan (25)

======================

RB3: Open for grabs, especially since they talked about how they need to be able to contribute in STs. Goodson is clearly the best athlete, but we have other returners, while Taylor has a more defined role both in STs and between the tackles.

WR6: Probably also going to a STer,  but Heath clearly made the most hype in OTAs.

TE Taylor: clearly lead the team in ST snaps last year, and it wasn't that close... 26% more of the total ST snaps than the guy with the 4th most ST snaps.

OL: I strongly considered releasing one more, but they're trying to develop guys and Gute seemed to be very much trying to protect the guys they're developing and OL tends to lack depth around the league, so to protect them, you have to keep them on the 53 man roster. Also, no idea whom to release next.

======================

PUP
OLB Gary
CB Stokes

I think Gary might be ready by the season, no idea on Stokes. But Packers traditional play it overly safe with medical and this just made it easiest to get down to 53.

======================

Defense
DT (2): Clark, Slaton (2)
DE (3): Wyatt, Wooden, Brooks (5)

OLB (5) Smith, Van Ness, Enagbare, Hollins, Cox (10)
ILB (5) Campbell, Walker, McDuffie, Wilson, Carpenter (15)

S (5): Savage, Ford, Moore, Leavitt, Johnson (20)
CB (5) Alexander, Douglas, Nixon, Valentine, Ballentine (25)

======================

DT: The huge downside to this roster is with Clark playing at DE, they're is no backup NT should Slaton go down. But in this, I gave it as Clark slides over, as I'm not sure NT Ford is ready.

DE/OLB: It might get interesting as they have talked about guys being able to do both and I think we might see them intermixed more than usual, I think we're going back more to a Vic Fangio 2011-2014 49ers defensive scheme.

ILB: I really don't like keeping 5 ILBers as usually only two play on defense, but ST coaches have seemed to suggest I'm wrong, and want a number of ILBer sized STs.

S: Extremely tough cut, but I don't think they keep six. Cut has tried to keep all the rookies on the 53 man roster as of late, so I think Johnson makes it (especially since the rest are all in contract years, would be nice for one guy to be locked in for next year). So for me it was down to Owens and Leavitt. On defense, Leavitt is clearly the weak link. BUT Leavitt has also been playing a very heavy ST percentage role for Rich Bisaccia for YEARS including 2nd highest in Packers snap count last year and not even close. But it came to do, since joining the NFL in 2018, Owens has only played 8 games in a single season once, and he played for some pretty bad Texans teams.

CBs: LaFleaur had some very good things to say about rookie 7th rounder CB Valentine. And CB Ballentine joined the main roster late, but once on it, he played about 50% of the ST snaps.

======================

Special Team ST (3):
K: Carlson
P: O’Donnell
LS: Orzech

It's amazing for a team that "experts" believe will be last in the weak NFC North, there are so few positional battles. Of the 53 spots available there are only about 5 that are truly up for grabs.

But there are some interesting battles still

All backup QB spots
RB3

WR6 (mainly no battle as no vets, and draft picks normally make it)

TE spots are probably locked, but playing time and rotation is battling.

RT1 / LT2 / OC2 and what backups step up (if any)

All backup DL

Order of OLBers and whom get the last spot or do they keep 6 or not?

ILB, do they keep 5 or not? If no ILB4.

All the Safety spots and orders

Rumor has it, Gary and Stokes will be ready before the season. If so, then whom to cut for their spots?

The oblivious possibilities are those last at their positions groups in OLB Cox and CB Ballentine. But I think Ballentine will be a key STer and Cox has a lot of hype and future potential (if he can stop pissing off others, including coaches).

I thinka possible final spot between LBers Hollins, Cox, Wilson and Carpenter would be interesting and the question becomes how much does STs play a factor and one year veteran contract vs youth and longer cheaper contract. I would be happiest going with 4 ILBers. But with the Packers talking about mixing and matching the OLBers and DEs, I'm going with they try to sneak Cox to the PS as the ST coordinator tries to get his best ST unit possible. Of course, I could also see Gute over riding him, and choosing to keep the youngster and get rid of a vet.

For the other spot, I'm looking at the offense, as the defenses is just too hard to let another guy go. They might release another OL, WR or even go with 2 RBs again. My guess would be that they release WR Heath, as normally that 6th WR spot goes to a STer and I'm not sure the Packers currently have a 6th ST WR, keeping an extra DB would be better, and if needed, RB Goodson is sorta more like a WR than RB anyways.

As for every team has depth issues, I would have to agree -- seeing as you know I've pointed that out a plethora of times. And thinking more about how many roster spots are up for grabs on any of the 32 NFL teams. I don't think many teams have more than half dozen spots that are up for grabs. I'd speculate that most teams have a good idea of what their 53 will be, but have that half dozen spots that could be sniped by guys.  Meaning they might think X, Y and Z are gonna make the team, but whoa nelly look at how great A, B and C are doing!

I guess, I think the 90 day man roster is more about due diligence while also providing bodies to have more practice sessions of Offense vs Defense.

Long winded answer to short answer as I think more about this as I'm typing. I don't think any team has more than half dozen roster spots. I say this because we could all plunk down our projected 53 and I bet we get all of them correct with the exception of ~10 and when you consider none of our us experts, we have to assume the experts know better so they probably have a lesser margin.
