I thought we all stopped the nonsense. Then I turned radio on while waiting for my daughters bus. Why would the Packers take Corey Davis over any draft pick from Jets? It makes no sense to me. Jets gotta cut him for cap purposes. Do we really want him as the veteran WR and we're afraid Jets will trade him to another team? Am I massively under valuing Davis??

Well, what's this nonsense that you're hearing that I'm not?

The Packers can't afford the Rodgers cap hit and Corey Davis' current contract to start with. So the only reason they'd want Davis is if the Jets agree to let the Packers talk with him, and he's agreed to take a pay cut with the Packers.


But also the Packers might be getting Davis as a free bonus, and not instead of a draft pick. The same exact deal, just the Packers might take an extra player that the Jets want without exchanging any extra for him because the Jets want to free up cap space to sign OBJ.

No, we aren't afraid of being traded to another team, but if released he potential might sign with another team, which again, at his current contract, good. 

But Packers GM has said he wants a veteran in the WR room and Davis played under LaFleaur for one year and had one of his best years and he might Lazard (or slightly better). Packers do like blocking WRs in this scheme especially with losing the TEs as well.


So I could absolutely see the Packers wanting Davis (but not his current contract). 

But Packers might take over swapping 7th round picks or something.

The funny part was I tossed this topic up while sitting in the car. By the time my daughter got dropped off they were saying trading for Corey Davis wouldn't make any sense because Jets are not going to have him on the 2023 roster, so why lose a potential draft pick for a guy you could likely get for no compensation. 

Moral of the story, let the sports talk radio boys have their headline clickbait-y statements and let them come around to reality! haha

I forgot to point this out. I like this kind of thinking. Let's say they (Packers/Jets) value the adding of WR Corey Davis to the trade as equal to a "8th" round selection. Yes, I know there are only seven rounds.  That's why it's as mentioned, it's a free bonus. Wait, aren't all "bonus" free, hence them being "bonus"? Okay, now I'm just being pedantic! 

Anyhow, I just wanted to call this out as a good observation/thought.
