According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Packers are re-signing cornerback and kick returner Keisean Nixon.
Rapoport reports that it’s a one-year deal worth a max value of $6 million.
It’s a perfect start to free agency for the Packers and a move they absolutely had to make.
Nixon was named a first-team All-Pro last season as a returner after leading the NFL in kick return yards. He also had a kick return touchdown versus the Minnesota Vikings.
Not only is Nixon a game-changing returner, but he also offers great depth at cornerback. He stepped in on defense last season, making an impact.
Nixon was arguably Green Bay’s best free-agent addition last season.
On defense, he made two pass defenses and one interception. On special teams, he made 1,009 kick return yards with one touchdown, averaging an excellent 28.8 yards on kick returns.
And he didn’t even have the kick return job for the entire season.
It’s unclear how many free agents Green Bay will be able to re-sign in the coming days, but Nixon had to be the priority. Getting him back at the start of free agency is great news for the Packers.
