Around a month ago, the Packers entered their late-season bye week knowing every game from here on out was win-or-go-home. It was only early December, but their proverbial playoffs had already begun.
Green Bay’s offense was never supposed to set the world on fire this season, we knew that heading in. But their defense — a unit they’ve invested in heavily over the last five years — was meant to shoulder the load for a franchise that has long relied on putting up points, not preventing them. 13 games in, that wasn’t the case whatsoever.
Entering the bye week, Joe Barry’s defense had allowed over 20 points in eight of their last ten games. This included games against quarterbacking klutzes like Zach Wilson, Taylor Heinicke and Bailey Zappe.
