The Packers offense got killed against the Vikings in passing situations, but the Packers actually did alright running the ball, it's just that they passed the ball 70% of the time. Packers are going to have to be more balanced going forward even if they get Bakhtiari and Jenkins back.

On the bright side, according to PFF the Bears defense got absolutely killed against the 49ers running the ball... with only two players among the DL and LB scoring even close to average... and they both only played 13 run plays over a total of 32.

So the Packers should be able to have some success if that stay more balanced against the Bears.

Speaking of which, PFF equally averages the grades for pass and run blocking which I don't like, so I'm just going to list both ranking apart from each other.

OL Pass Blocking
1) 87.0 Nijman
2) 84.6 Runyan
3) 59.5 Myers
4) 47.8 Newman (at RT)
5) 41.0 Tom
6) 14.4 Hanson

OL Run Blocking
1) 69.1 Newman
2) 63.6 Nijman
3) 60.8 Hanson
4) 52.8 Myers
5) 44.7 Tom
6) 39.0 Runyan

You might be look at these run blocks and saying those numbers don't look great, and they aren't, but dang the RBs did a fantastic job of making even more than their blocking...

According to PFF, Dillon was averaging 3.2 yards AFTER contact! And due to two huge plays to the left, Jones averaged 4.4 yards AFTER contact (he was averaging 2 if you take out those two huge plays to the left).

But still, got to get those RBs going sooner and stay with them more often!

The Packers seemed to have success running the ball vs Vikings. I was kind of surprised with the new WR's out there they didn't keep pounding the rock. Maybe they didn't feel the defense was going to hold up? Maybe the QB took the pass on the run/pass plays called?

So does Mr. Rodgers have a say so in the game plan or just changes plays all the time, which could be the case and that's why we waste so many time outs.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

It would be really strange to change from run to pass when you don't have WR's you can trust.

I think y'all are over simplifying the Wide Zone offense... yes, it wants to get defenses to go side to side, instead of vertical... and wants defenses to bite on their play action passes so they can try some deeper stuff... but when they have good QBs, they also pass the ball a good bit too.

And another part of wide zone under the Shanahan method is get your RB or other playmakers in one on ones, toss them the boss and let them try to break a tackle... but doing so with short throws to keep your defense off your QB.

And the play action was not working at all against the Vikings...

OL couldn't hold up to the Vikings defensive front which 4 of their starting 5 are veteran FAs...

Vikings have very athletic LBers to follow the RBs around...

And Packers didn't have a star WR that could quickly beat the coverage, and also had Rodgers trust to beat the quick pass rush.

But yeah, they should of planned a lot more short stuff... but the bottom line is that their defense front beat our offensive front in the passing game...

But maybe they should of tried even hard to get the ball into Jones and Dillons hands as they kept making plays, weather that was running the ball or short throws.

The WRs we're not consistently getting open, Rodgers might of missed them when they did get open, but they were usual covered very well.
