Veteran linebacker Whitney Mercilus announced his retirement Monday after a 10-year NFL career.

After signing their draft picks, it looks like they have about $6 million to play with. There isn't much to work with in season or try to get a veteran WR.

I think the packers might have offered a vet minimum contract signed after June so it would not be guaranteed.

Money. While the Packers were able to pay him a pro rated $700,000 on $1 million contract last year, Houston was still paying him as well. I think it was over $4 million. No way they would be able to resign him for $1 million a year. It is possible Green Bay offered him a new deal and for the money he decided to retire. Only speculation.
