Trading back before made all sorts of sense - you get a large amount of young potential, knowing that a good proportion of that potential never pans out. More picks, better chance you'll get a number of good core players. And it's worked, the core of the team is pretty dang solid.
As much as this draft is being looked at as a poor one, though, I see guys who could be very helpful available in every mock I've seen, so I kind of hope he doesn't trade back this year.
