From Ian Rapoport  -- If it matters now or in the future: The #Packers like what they have in Jordan Love if something were to happen with Aaron Rodgers. He’s performed well in practice. No one knows what will happen in a game. But the early returns are positive.

After todays news, I sure as hell hope so!

Sure. Not good enough to be the backup QB, but savior of the franchise. That's plausible.

With something resembling more of typical offseason this year, I imagine we'll hear and see much more of him. I mean really, the guy was a rookie. Aaron Rodgers didn't impress anyone as a rookie either. I feel like the people that remember when QBs sat a year or three before taking over is an increasingly small group.

Secondly, Boyle had a year of experience in the system and the organization probably felt that mechanically/experience wise, he was a better fit to sub in mid-game if Aaron Rodgers got hurt. Had Rodgers gone down in week two or something like that, I think there would have been a very likely chance that Love would have seen significant action, with an offense tailored to his skill set. So Boyle being the guy they felt more comfortable to run an Aaron Rodgers tailored offense is not necessarily an indictment of Love's abilities.

Thirdly, everyone knew Love was a developmental prospect. And yes, late 1st round is when development QBs are drafted these days. 5 QBs went in the top 15 this year and the majority of them probably won't be anything more than average starters, if that.

Lastly, they let Boyle go in the offseason, so they must feel fairly confident in Love. Whether that confidence is well placed remains to be seen of course.

Now, I'm not here to tell you that Love is going to be awesome, or even good - I have no idea if he will be, nobody, literally no one on the planet knows if he'll be good or not until he suits up for an NFL game, and more realistically, starts for a season or two.

Here's Aaron Rodger's 2005 (rookie year) preseason highlights.

What you'll see here is a lot of:
• quick shots to his first read
  • off target passes, many to his first read
  • getting pressured and panic running before going through his progression
• The guy didn't look great, heck, he didn't even look okay. Cut to 2021, the people who are complaining about Love being a bust or not being good enough to be the #2, are the same who would have told you Aaron Rodgers would never be an NFL QB.

Again, I'm not saying Love is going to be the next Packers QB to reach the NFL HOF, but let's pump the breaks on the "he sucks" hot takes until he, you know, suits up for a game, shall we?

Of course the Packers are going to say they like what they see with Love.
What are they supposed to say? That he sucks and was a huge mistake?
Like was already said, NO ONE knows if he will be good, bad or average until he actually has to show it on the field during a real game.

It wasn't until 2007 where he started to look like a future NFL starter. I recall a preseason game against the San Diego Chargers in 2007 is when I started to feel Rodgers was ready to become a starter. It was just one game, but you could see his development had taken off. His play against Dallas in 2007 (in relief of Brett Favre) only reinforced what we saw that preseason. Rodgers was ready.

It's not a coincidence that the Packers didn't ask Brett Favre to reconsider his retirement after 2007. They knew Rodgers was ready and they were prepared to move on without Favre. Part of me thinks Rodgers knows this and he's worried about the same thing happening to him.

In fact, I would be shocked if he hasn't thought this through. The moment Love is ready is the moment the Packers move on from Rodgers. Like Favre, he has no control of this and it's a difficult position to be in.

I have a HOF QB that is at least bothered by his presence, so I have that going for me, lol
