Per source, Packers signed LT David Bakhtiari to a new contract just before midnight last night. Four-year extension.

Bakhtiari's deal has new-money value of $23 million per year. That makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in league history.

David Bakhtiari signed his 2016 extension before the opener vs. Jacksonville.

@ByRyanWood: David Bakhtiari told agent Mark Humenik not to tell him about negotiations until there was offer that would make him highest-paid OL in NFL history: "I felt like I had earned and deserved that title, and I wanted to make sure the contract was real and reflected that."

I'm not saying he's not worth it, or shouldn't get it, but this just feels like we're screwed. We are going to need the existing guys to become something they are not to get to the promised land.

Too much imo. What's the hit if we cut him after he's 30?

Signing Bak also opens up using the franchise tag on RB Aaron Jones, which if PFT's math was right, it's cheaper to franchise tag a RB a couple of years rather than give them the going rate which has really shot up there this year after being really down for a number of years. So assuming PFT's numbers were right, it's actually cheaper to franchise a RB a couple of years (which is very rare with the franchise tag, and some wonder if PFT's projection numbers are right).

Wow. Despite getting Tunsil AAV of $22 mil a year, I thought something around $20 mil would be more than generous.

Kind of a surprise and it was not his best game today. Packers clearly wanted to show how much they value him. Is it desperation? They didn't need to sign him now.

I believe that handing out outrageous contracts like this will lead to the demise of the NFL.
To see these athletes demanding this kind of money and then watch them going through the motions like the Packers did today should leave a bad taste in the mouths of most fans.

Kirk Cousins and Carson Wentz make almost as much as Aaron yet when he signed his contract back in the day it was a shocking amount of money.

Martha Careful (6-Jan) : watching the Vikings and Lions it's understandable why they swept the Packers. So much better product
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Even when GB got pressure he was throwing darts; vs no pressure on that last pass he just air mails an open guy
