And it sounded like Martin might of been a part-time starter too... now he needs knee surgery and will miss several weeks.

Reports are his season isn't nessarily over, but they will need to carry him to the 53 man roster if they want him to play this year, even if they have to IR him the day after.

Also Burks is injured, and Bolton is on the PUP, which means it's just Kirksey (who hasn't stayed healthy the last two years), very late round second year play Summers, and an UDFA who are healthy at ILB.

I'm guessing this means we're going to be seeing S Greene as the dime coverage LB now for sure.

Also, totally speculating and probably wrong, but if the team did have plans to sign OT Veldheer (or anyone else CB Tramon Williams), after the 53 man cutdown, Martin initially staying on the 53, then going to the IR, opens up a spot for them. But again, that's probably just in my head. Other words they might of resigned him (them) already.

If Martin is out for "several weeks" they might not put him on IR. That is for 8 weeks isn't it? If so they will have to keep him on the 53 until healthy which kinda hurts the overall team.

It's going to be difficult to stay as relatively injury free as last year.

Just like rookie draft pick Simon Stepaniak, telling everyone said according to his doctor, he'd be back by July 15 (no chance, and he's still not cleared yet).

But yes, if a player goes on the IR, they can't come back for 8 weeks, but they can active a two week practice window before that, so if he's ready, he can start practicing after week 6, because you know the Packers, the doctors are not going to just rush him back anyways.

But I figure a surgery in theory would probably take a guy out at least a month to heal. An extra month, especially for a rookie isn't that much extra, of course, if we were to lose more ILBers, then he might be a huge deal.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay Packers rookie linebacker Kamal Martin, a possible starter, had surgery for a torn meniscus on Tuesday and will not be available for at least six weeks, a source told ESPN.

So at least 6 weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on IR then.

On second thought, two weeks until 53 cut downs right? So maybe only 4 in season weeks, right on the line there, could go either way.

Crap, I was really looking forward to seeing this kid play.
I had high hopes for him to be a solid ILB.

Should I say it?????

Cue the countless requests by Packer fans for Clay to come back to play ILB.

I wasn't really depending on the guy as a Rookie, but I really don't have much confidence in Burks. Hopefully Raven can stay healthy and we we play with 3 safeties and Raven in dime.

Thanks a lot Cambridge.

A young professional athlete needing six weeks makes me feel better about needing four weeks.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
