Just a though I had. With Brady going to Tampa, I imagine Winston will be out. How do y’all feel about him as a backup for us?

Gee....I don’t know.
Maybe having time to relax and learn behind Rodgers would work.

There is already a thread about this. We have two million left of spendable cap space left. Winston will probably command 10x that...

The team doesn't have enough cap space as it is to get them through the season... as all teams have in season hiring when injuries or trades hit... and $2 million is at least $4 million short (especially since the new CBA just raised minimum wage price)

They don't need to waste it more on an INT machine (unless his eye surgery, fixed that).

Um, also, Winston and his sexual assaults... (his eye surgery didn't fix that).

He MIGHT be a good one year project and trade or get a comp pick for... or might be a waste of time and space.

The only other free agent I would like for us to sign is tight end Eric Ebron. Get everything else in the draft. WR, DT, OL, and another ILB.

The following is assuming the Packers will be going for comp picks once again next year like they are this year (or whenever said contract would run out)

I doubt Winston take it, but I'm at the point where I might say "screw it", offer him a lower offer with the pitch of

1) learning from Rodgers,
2) the idea that this same system has gotten the NFC teams to the Championship game the last two years.
3) That the Packers know how to deal with guys that throw a lot of TDs and INT and we recently put one in the NFL Hall Of Fame
4) Packers have a very talented team that got them to the NFC Championship Game
5) Sitting behind a future hall of famer can get you a big contract, see Teddy Bridgewater (and Saints already got their guy of the future, so).

Why? Because everything makes it sound like he's an extremely hard worker in the field but his vision had some questions marks and he recently had eye surgery.

Also because I'm guessing he could potentially fetch at least a 4th round comp pick (or better), if he has a decent bounce back year.
