Is anyone other than me sick of the term targets in regard to our receiving corps? I really don’t like the term and moreover the concept behind the term.

I don't want my QB targeting anyone. I want him throwing to his first read if open then working down the progressions. If player X happens to be progression 1, then throw him the damn ball irrespective of who he is.

“We have to get Jimmy“ or “We have to get Davante more targets” IMO is a BS concept.

Design the play, read the defense and throw it to the open guy irrespective of who he is...thats what they do in NE.

I don't necessarily think the way you are using the word target is the same way everyone else is using it...but I do completely agree with your statement otherwise. The main that has been holding us back the last few years is Rodgers hatred for trusting his progressions and getting the ball out on time within the design of the play. He actually did that about 80% of the time vs Philadelphia (for the first time in a long time) and wam bam we had our best offensive showing of the way and would have been much better had we not outthought ourselves at the goal line twice. Rodgers has a mental block he has been unable to get past. He wants to play backyard football. It just holds us back. Until he gets past that, he'll never be great like he was.

I'm waiting for "we need to convert first downs better" ... that is something I can get behind. And then followed by "we need to come away with points in the red zone at a high percentage".

But seriously....I have seen guys open short countless times, and by the time Rodgers even sees them, they are no longer open. If he hit these guys quick, it would open up opportunities down field later.
He used to hit the quick ones all the time. Now.....I don’t know what’s wrong with him.
Maybe his 👀 are going, and now he’s far sighted.😂

The RB blocked him perfectly. That's the kind of trust he's currently lacking. I think too many shots to his body have (rightfully) worried. Once he realizes he has some guys doing their jobs, I think he'll start fucking people up.

..I have seen guys open short countless times, and by the time Rodgers even sees them, they are no longer open.

Many times, in ANY offense, that phenomena is because, predicated upon the play call and defensive coverage, that player is not the primary receiver. Once a QB works down his progressions it may be too late.

My concern, and the reason for the thread, is that I am hoping we arent forcing plays into receivers. Many posters have rightly pointed out the need for a number 2 and 3 wide out to step up. 12 needs to have faith that when the defense dictates that these guys (2-3-4) are the primary read, they will be where they are supposed to be.

He should NOT be overriding the system in lieu of targets
