I remember hearing Bart tell that very story. It’s very touching and shows that although Lombardi was tough, he also had a true love for his players. He wasn’t afraid to show his love for his friends and family. A true MAN.

I watched A Football Life - Mike Holmgren and I think he and Lombardi had several similarities. Both good teachers, extremely demanding of their players but also genuinely cared for his players.

Bart Starr told this story in A Football Life - Vince Lombardi. Pretty damn fascinating 90 minutes of TV. If you have Amazon Prime, you can watch it with no extra money lost.
