I was going to write this guy off in the draft bust category to sit alongside Justin Harrell but you give me pause. Thank you for the dose of optimism.

I'm not sure I like the "bust" label because quite frankly, I don't know what it means.

P2W, Great Post....but just understand, WE ALL WANT THIS KID TO SUCCEED.

We know he has heart.

Its just frustrating both for us, and more so for him, that with all the potential, he just gets hurt a lot.

I have been frustrated too, but it sounds like King is even more so, according to Pettine. I completely get it, but think it is a bit early to be writing him off, as he had significant injuries to overcome in both of his seasons in GB. This year he wants to show well, and I'm hoping he does like all of my other friends here.

His history at UW shows he plays through pain. A lot of times, it isn't even the player's call as to whether they can play, but rather the training & medical staff. What is the guy going to do? Labrum tear with surgery prior to being drafted, another labrum tear in opposite shoulder as a rookie, played through it as long as he could then surgery. Year two he suffers the groin and hammy.

He grew up.

Having admitted late last year — as he finished the season on injured reserve again — that he needed to do just that and be more of a professional, the Green Bay Packers third-year cornerback took a new approach with his time off this time.

Instead of jet-setting around the world with his buddies at a moment’s notice, he hunkered down in his native Bay Area in California, focused on workouts instead of fun and set his mind to becoming the player the Packers expected him to be when they took him at the top of the second round (No. 33 overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft.

“Maturity,” said the 24-year-old King, who isn’t married, doesn’t have children and is in the third year of a four-year, $7.08 million contract. “When you come into the league, you have a childish mindset. You’re coming from college, where everything is so structured. You do this, this, this, basically 50 weeks out of the year. You’ve got no money.

“Then you come to the NFL, you’re a high draft pick, you give a guy X amount of money, you give a guy months off, and it’s easy to get lost in the sauce on things. Because there’s nobody telling you what to do. But then, you’ve got to figure it out. And it comes with time, with trial and error. You need to rest. You need to enjoy yourself. You need to have fun. You need to unplug. Those are things you absolutely should be doing.

“But how much of that do you do? You have to have that balance — and growth. You have to learn what works for you.”

What worked for King was more structure, less silliness. He didn’t adopt a monastic approach to the offseason, but he made sure he stayed home for most of his time off and cut back on one thing he loves: Traveling.

“I like being in a routine — getting up at the same time every day, doing this, doing that, and then have my time. Rather than flying here, flying there, trying to get your workout in. You’re all over the place,” King said. “Your sleep schedule might be off, you don’t eat at the same time. It’s not like the work isn’t there, it’s just different. I just wanted to get my mind, my body in a routine so I could get those gains, that growth.

“Think about it: Having money, and not having a family, you can go anywhere, whenever. Right? And when you have free time, it’s no big deal. Your friends are like, ‘Hey, let’s go to … Vegas!’ And you’re like, ‘All right. Let’s go.’ But now, it’s, ‘Nah, man, I’ve got this workout scheduled. Maybe another time.’ It’s OK to do that, but not all the time.”

And for King, there was no time like the present — and early returns on his more mature approach have been positive so far in camp. Playing alongside some big-time trash-talkers in Jaire Alexander, Tony Brown and others at the cornerback position, King’s more measured approach has gotten the attention of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was surprised to learn Thursday that King is only entering his third season.

“Kevin’s a little older. (He’s) been around a little bit; I know he’s missed some time. Is it only his third year? Oh, wow. He seems a lot older,” Rodgers said.

Kevin King sounds like he's really got his head on straight, and I'm really pulling for him to have a great year this season, and many more in GB.

Some players can't stay on the field because of one serious injury and/or condition. Such as Tim Lewis, Sterling Sharp, and Nick Collins. Some it happens because of multiple lesser injuries, like King. They are all frustrating, especially with HOF caliber players, which I believe all the above are. With multiple injuries it is more frustrating because it happens over time rather than an incident and it's over. We're forced to accept it. If we're lucky he may "grow out" of the problems and stay health, however unlikely. It has happened. It would be great to see. I feel he can be an outstanding player. All we can do is hope for the best.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

dfosterf (18-Aug) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : Whoops, I thought Zero was saying it was a surprise the Brewers lost and not Lloyd being hurt
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : Not a surprise; inevitable
Zero2Cool (17-Aug) : Brewers streak ends at 14
Zero2Cool (17-Aug) : SURPRISE
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on MarShawn Lloyd: “He’s gonna miss some time.”
Mucky Tundra (16-Aug) : CLIFFORD WITH THE TD WITH UNDER 2 TO GO!!!!!
Zero2Cool (16-Aug) : 90 MINUTES UNTIL FAKE KICKOFF!!
Martha Careful (16-Aug) : I think Ruven is a bot, but regardless should be stricken from the site.
Zero2Cool (14-Aug) : Packers RB Josh Jacobs ranked No. 33 in NFL 'Top 100'
dfosterf (13-Aug) : The LVN Musgrave collision- Andy Herman said Musgrave seemed to be the one most impacted injury-wise
dfosterf (13-Aug) : a lower back injury
dfosterf (13-Aug) : Doubs says he's "fine" after injury scare. Some reported it as z
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget
Zero2Cool (12-Aug) : RB Tyrion Davis-Price is signing with the Green Bay Packers.
Zero2Cool (12-Aug) : zero help, dominated. preseason
beast (12-Aug) : QB Jordan Love has surgery
beast (12-Aug) : Martha said Morgan had a lot of help, I didn't watch the OL so I can't say.
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers LT Jordan Morgan did not allow a single pressure across 23 pass-blocking snaps vs. Jets last night, per PFF
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : With buckeye and the reasonable couple, we're currently sitting at 10
buckeyepackfan (10-Aug) : Just posted to re-up on our FFL.
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : If healthy after, then thats all I care. Well, no drops would be nice
wpr (10-Aug) : I made it through the 1st Q.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Just gotta figure out how.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Could have been a worse start, so there is that.
beast (10-Aug) : Yeah, someone tell the Packers football season has started, seems like they weren't ready for it
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : Sooooooo many penalties
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : It may only be preseason, but this game is a trip to the dentist
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers do bad -- FREAK OUT!!!!!!
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers do good -- eh only preseason
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Well that half was fun
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Great, zayne is down
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : 13 minutes away from kickkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkoffff
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Had Celebration of Life for my uncle up north. wicked rain hope it dont come south
Mucky Tundra (9-Aug) : THE GREEN BAY PACKERS ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL TONIGHT!!!!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
