Grading a pick 5 minutes after it is taken is just ridiculous.

They didn't take a TE.
Get over it.
Gutey is building HIS team.
He knows what he has currently on the roster.

Still plenty of TE talent left
We'll find out if Gutey has one targeted in the next 2 days.

One of the big problems on defense last year was the lack of turnovers.
With the 3 veteran FA pickups and these 2 guys, looks like Gutey is going all out to put a fast, hard hitting D on the field.

Results in 9 months.

I hope you like the new addition to the "F" grade. It's well deserved after what happened at No. 4 tonight.

This is an "F" grade all the way. Darnell Savage is a second-round prospect who may have snuck into the bottom end of the first round. There was absolutely no reason to move up nine spots for him. He, or someone very comparable to him, would've been available at No. 30 overall. I wouldn't have minded the Packers taking Savage had they remained at their own choice, but giving up resources for poor value is just a recipe for disaster.

Once again Walter is taking both sides. On the big board he rates Savage @ 27. It's not surprising when a team bumps a prospect from 27 to 21. Even if it is a "reach" you don't go from an A-B to F because moving up. Trading a couple of 4ths for it still doesn't merit the F.

Walter has him rated as the #2 safety . Potentially a 1st round pick.

Darnell Savage, S, Maryland
Height: 5-11. Weight: 198. Arm: 30.63. Hand: 9.00.
40 Time: 4.36. Three Cone: 7.03.
Bench: 11. Vertical: 39.5. Broad: 10-6.
Projected Round (2019): 1-2.
4/20/19: Savage has become a hot prospect, putting together great workouts in the leadup to the draft. On top of the workouts, he has good tape from his final season at Maryland and teams love his character. Of all the prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft, Savage could be the leader for the most pre-draft visits as there are 10 teams and counting that have hosted him in April. Savage has to chance to go much higher than expected and could sneak into the first round. Sources say he is a smart kid, a team leader, and charismatic.

Savage played really well for the Terrapins in 2018, almost helping them pull off an upset over Ohio State. Maryland's defense did a nice job in the early going of holding the Buckeyes' play-makers in check, and Savage was a key part of that. In 2018, Savage totaled 52 tackles with four interceptions and two passes broken up. He does not have great size, but he makes up for it with speed and instincts. Savage also has the versatility to play some nickel cornerback.

A GM taking him as the top selected safety is reasonable. Clearly not worthy of an F grade.

I like him a lot, great upside, and I think he's a lot like a more athletic Amos.

Though I'm wondering if Pettine is going to keep playing cover 2... in the past I thought he played a lot more cover 1, but the Packers really don't have a great deep FS... though two guys they can maybe split the duty in cover 2. (Or maybe try to coach Savage up into cover 1). But I'm guessing they're going to keep going with more cover 2 now.

According to the three main ways of doing the trade chart, the move up for Savage was a positive deal for the Packers in two of the calculations, whereas it was a benefit for the Seahawks according to the one other way of calculating it.

It just struck me as being over the top to give the F. That should only be used for a Tony Mandarich or Rich Campbell type of a bust.

This is me wild guessing that Pettine is going to stick with his cover 2 with Safeties helping over top like last year, more than his single Safety deep coverage like he ran with the Jets.
