Mike Mayock has the Packers taking OT Michael Oher at 9. He must've read our minds. You'll see what we mean on Tuesday.

From Greg A. Badard of jsonline:

I could see this being a classic Thompson pick, and it obviously addresses a need.

Oher is just over 6-4 and weighed 309 at the combine. He has rare athletic ability. He has long arms and great feet. He played basically one year of high school, so he might have a higher ceiling that Eugene Monroe and Jason Smith, the top two tackles in the draft.

Oher has flown under the radar because he's terribly inconsistent but he has the tools to be great. Even on the highlights included in this CSTV package about Oher's story, his mechanics are terrible at times. He plays way too high. At the Senior Bowl, I didn't even notice Oher because he was so bad. He got beat a lot. But the thing with him is, he learns quickly. Beat him the first two times, he's going to figure it out and you won't get around him again.

I know he's inconsistent...but with a little coaching this guy could turn out to be a great future LT. What do you guys think?

Michael Oher or Aaron Maybin at #9. Either way would be an excellent pick.

I agree on one comment that was made and that is this would be a classic Ted Thompson pick. Ted Thompson seems to take the guys that need work and have alot of the so called potential. Doesnt really seem like it matters what they do on the field.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Yeah his early picks seem to be of potential and his later picks seem to be down to earth hard nose football types who are very passionate about football.

I think you need to find that football passion in the earlier rounds too.

I saw that mock draft aswell. I know we need a tackle, but this does seem like somewhat of a reach for Oher.

If we really do want this guy, I'd prefer that we'd trade back. Maybe try to trade with a team that's desperate for a QB. I think Oher will be there at a later pick amd there are alot of teams that would be interested in Sanchez.

He doesn't reach for draft picks as much as people pretend that he does. Some of the guys he's taken hadn't done much "on the field" but were still high draft projections.

2005
-Aaron Rodgers - Projected 1st round
-Nick Collins - Projected 4th round, 1-AA all american *1
-Terrence Murphy - Projected 3rd taken with pick #58 in 2nd. Didn't do much on the field but was a high ranked WR. *2

2006
-A.J. Hawk - Projected 1st round #1 LB
-Darryn Colledge - Projected 2nd round
-Greg Jennings - Projected 2nd round #4 WR, 3rd in NCAA in yards and TDs

2007
-Justin Harrell - #3 ranked DT projected 1st round, 2005 pre-season ALL-SEC, 2005 Cotton Bowl MVP.
-Brandon Jackson - 3rd round projection, taken late 2nd. 3rd in big-12 in rushing and all-purpose yards.
-James Jones - 24th ranked WR, proj round 5th. *3

2008
-Jordy Nelson - 2nd in NCAA in receptions and yards, projected 2nd round
-Brian Brohm - Top 3 ranked QB, projected 1st round.
-Pat Lee - 9th ranked CB, projected 2-3 round.

Out of 12 guys who were top 3 picks each year you have 3 maybe 4 (depending on personal opinion) guys who were big reaches or who never did that much on the field. That doesn't seem like that many to me. 2 of them WRs which Ted has shown he is able to pick talented WRs.

I think we should go NT or OT with the #9. This draft seems like it has good enough depth at DE/OLB and OT that we could get a solid pick with our 9 at either position. We already have a bunch of OLBs I don't see the point of drafting a rookie for that position. For NT it would depend on if Raji or someone fell that far.

So whats the deal with raji? smoked a little wacky tobaccy and thats it?

So does his stock fall at all? think well have a chance of nabbing him?

oh I was going to say - you wonder why cutler had so good yardage at denver? how many times was he sacked? was it 11?

I agree grab a NT or a OT at the 9 spot ... or jenkins 😉

Michael Oher doesn't really need as much work as everyone thinks. He'll usurp the starting spot as the season progresses. And I don't think it's reaching to take Michael Oher in the top 10, because there's like 6 really clear top tier players in this draft, but there's a significant drop in the quality of picks after that. Michael Oher is in the next tier of players.

Edit: The six players would be Matthew Stafford, Michael Crabtree, Eugene Monroe, Jason Smith, Brian Orakpo and Aaron Curry. Maybe even seven if you think B.J. Raji deserves that high consideration. But Oher is definetly in the tier after that.

Right. Jennings - average measurables, big production in college.
Korey Hall/Desmond Bishop - not classified as "high ceiling" players but were the leaders of their defenses in college.
Jordy Nelson - Nothing spectacular in terms of ceiling or potential, but HUGE production in college.
Will Blackmon - Constant playmaker in college. Has the "it" on the field, so much that BC switched him to offense when they needed playmakers on that side of the ball.

I could go on and on and on. Your statement is just completely off track and wrong. What the player has done on the field seems to matter more than anything else to TT.
