They list off reasons why he had to do something. I'm pretty cautiously excited. I don't like it when media is saying my team is winning free agency. You don't win the Super Bowl in March, but you can sure lose it.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- When word began to circulate a few weeks ago at the NFL combine that the Green Bay Packers would be big players in free agency, it was met with plenty of "yeah, right" responses.

And when the first day of the negotiating period passed with no action, the "yeah, right" crowd could have argued that these were the same old Packers who never did much in the opening rush of free agency under former general manager Ted Thompson.

Then came Tuesday morning.

Before lunchtime, second-year GM Brian Gutekunst landed four free agents who had agreed to contract terms: pass-rushers Za’Darius Smith (formerly of the Ravens) and Preston Smith (Redskins) plus safety Adrian Amos (Bears) and offensive lineman Billy Turner (Broncos).

So why did Gutekunst go all-in the day before the league year opened?

"He had to do something," a league source said Tuesday.

Gutey was here last year, but really wasn't in total control. He had Murphy and McCarthy to deal with.

This is really his 1st year to have total control and he is making the most of it.

He is building his team.

We should find out in the next week or so if he is going to bring back any more of The Packers FA's.

Would like to see him bring Breeland back, and if Clay would take a team friendly deal wouldn't mind seeing him back as an MLB and situational rusher. I have a feeling Clay will definitely get picked up by someone else. Breeland is really the last piece in free agency I want this year, with the exception of a mid-level veteran wideout if any become available.

I too am excited over the FA player acquisitions. However much remains to remake the Packers and lift them to a SB victory. I do feel that GB's GM is moving the player personal roster in a good direction. Some may say he is spending too much money, but a lot can still happen between now and opening day of the 2019 reg. season.

IMO, GB might be looking now at spending their #1 picks on possibly a WR or a TE if the available players in the draft fit the new GB system. Let us step lightly as we wait to see what moves will come next. 😁

The D-line has not been the issue, but pass rushing has. That and a new Safety addresses the most needful areas of last seasons improved Packer Defense. Resigning Wilkerson should help to provide a solid set of Starters.

Having addressed the Defensive need and the O-line need. IMO, improving Rodgers offensive options seems to be the next natural thing to focus on.

Unless I missed the signing.
I guess I should have said it will be interesting to see what, if any, 2nd tier FA's Gutey signs.

I see this years draft as a BPA after todays signings.
