It would be funny it's true.

I just doesn't seem plausible. What are the odds that Adam (even if he had help from minions) could call every other candidate and learn that they "got the call" from GB, THEN call Matt before the Packers could do so. The only way it seems possible if GB called everyone else then took a break for 15-30 min. Possible not probable. And yet stranger things have happened.

Why lie about this? It wouldn't take much for Matt LaFleur to defunct this and then suddenly your credibility goes down the drain. I believe it. Especially seeing as Brian G called Aaron Rodgers and asked him to call Matt. And that was before telling Matt about the offer.

I agree, that I don't think Adam Schefter would risk his credibility telling this, if this wasn't close to the truth.

That being said, why would the Packers eliminate everyone else before LaFleur accepts? Knowing that, in theory, a coach could potentially turn down or back out of a job offer... I would of kept 2 or 3 options on the table until the position was accepted.

You know unless they assumed 100% that LaFleur would accept the position (which maybe they did or felt like he would definitely take it after the interview).

I think Schefter believes this is actually the case....which makes me think La Fleur is one smart cookie...
• He played dumb.

• He is smart enough to know he could be being played.

And he is smart enough to know that the reports may not know all the candidates.

And just because the others were told no, there still may have been final negotiations on his contract
It's never a bad thing to have someone think they are smarter than you.

Like you said I think he was just being smart. My guess is they offered the job to LaFleuer, he accepted. They told him to keep it under wraps until they could call the other candidates and let them know personally so they wouldn't find out on twitter or some other impersonal way. Shefter got wind of it and made the call. LaFleur, knowing the team wasn't ready to make the announcement, played his part.

His answer to Shefters question is a little odd if you ask me. "I don't know what you are talking about" sounds like something someone would say if they didn't know they were being considered for the job. Or someone trying not to let the cat out of the bag.

Shefter may have been the first one outside the room to know but I highly doubt he broke the news to LaFleur. By room I mean those involved in the interview

    What KRK said.
I was thinking the coach may have already known, and didn’t want to let on, not wanting to confirm that he got the job before the Packers confirmation to the media.

dfosterf (25-Jul) : It's my one day deal complaint dept. on shareholder meeting day

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
