Well we still don't know the entire coaching staff or scheme, but I just thought we could look at some of the FAs that have been under our two new coaches, Head Coach LaFleur and OC Hackett (since LaFleur has moved around a bit in recent years, 3 teams players have been under him)

From Walterfootball.com

Tennessee Titans
Brian Orakpo, OLB
Quinton Spain, G

Los Angeles Rams
Jamon Brown, G (later released by Rams and claimed by Giants, but still FA so I'm keeping him listed)
Rodger Saffold, G
Kayvon Webster, CB
Ethan Westbrooks, DE
Ramik Wilson, LB

Atlanta Falcons
Tevin Coleman, RB
Grady Jarrett, DT
Andy Levitre, G
Matt Schaub, QB

Jacksonville Jaguars
Josh Lambo, K
Donte Moncrief, WR
T.J. Yeldon, RB

My biggest surprise is that I'm looking at the Jaguars list the most... besides the fact that it would be cool to hear Lambo kicking on Lambeau Field... there is

RB Yeldon who has four years of having at least 30 catches and 2 years of at least 50... and while he might not have beast mode, he does have some physical running ability, the Packers might be set with Jones, Williams and Yeldon (and I'm assuming Yeldon wouldn't cost that much, which of course could be a bad assumption).

WR Moncrief signed a one year, $9.6 million dollar deal with the Jaguars, so he might be expensive, but I also don't think anyone knows where his limits is... as he broke out his second year in 2015 with the Colts for 733 yards, but Luck missed half the season (though Matt Hasselback wasn't horrible)... then he was injured in 2016... in 2017 without Luck again for the entire season, and with a truly horrible OL (it was a bad OL to start with and injuries hit)... then with Jacksonville weak QB and OL again... but he got up to 48 catches for 668 yards. With a good pass system/QB he should be able to go a lot higher... though I'm not sure I was to test him, if he prove it one year deal price is $9.6 million... seems a bit steep.

Even though that offense that the Jags had was horrible, he was a (maybe somewhat forced) vocal point when Hackett was there. He got 44 of his 55 receptions and 406 of his 487 yards in the first 11 games, before Hackett got fired.

Again, that's somewhat skewed, because you need a lot of safety blankets, check-down options and screens if you don't want Bortles to throw 6 interceptions per game, but he does know how to incorporate a running back into the passing game and Yeldon is a guy who can make a difference on 3rd down.

A guy who's not on this list, but who I'd like at wide receiver is John Brown, but I made a post about that in another thread. Someone with experience, proven production and who most likely comes at a discount after not putting up the best numbers in that horrible Ravens passing attack.

Lastly, Orakpo I would've liked four years ago, but I'm afraid he's done. He's exactly what this team needed when he was in his prime, but right now, he's much on the same level as Matthews, with some added value against the run. He just can't get to the QB the way he used to.

Last, lastly and slightly off-topic... I used to love Walterfootball, but that site has become absolutely atrocious with the amount of adds you get popping up left, right and center. Not allowed to install Ad-Blocker at work, so I pretty much have to avoid it like the plague now. Such a shame.

Orakpo is retiring. He also runs, believe it or not, a very successful cupcake business.

Usually I use PFF, but I don't think theirs has come out (yet).

Since seeing the rumor that the Packers are interested in Redskins linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti , I have been looking at Redskins OLB Preston Smith... he has the big size that Pettine reportedly likes in edge rushers. I don't know if he's a total fit for the system, but interesting option to look at.

What I don't like is that he's looked like more of a second rusher in terms of talent. Teams obviously give more attention to Ryan Kerrigan, which gives him some opportunities. The question, then, is what kind of pricetag you put on a guy like that. Especially since we have absolutely no one at OLB right now, apart from Nick Perry on an uninjured and good day. Or Fackrell, but I'm always a little scared, though, of guys who string together a good game or 6, after pretty much stinking it up before that.

Another guy with the same pros and cons is Za'Darius Smith. I haven't seen him play, but from what I've read, he's a bit better when rushing the passer, but not as good against the run. A trade-off I wouldn't mind all that much.

While I agree that knowing who the FAs are is important, if you are unaware of the system that is looking to find FAs that will fit it is another. For GB I'm mainly referring to the new offensive system that HC LaFleur will be installing. It will place more emphasis in some areas and less in others. That said, the player personal will help to determine GB's new look as it is not based upon a rigid set of well known plays that are very predictable. The McVey/Shanahan derived system basically operates from the same formation sets, but is highly unpredictable as most of the plays start out looking the same until the play begins. Defenses can't read any tendencies from the offense that tip them off to what is coming their way.

I posted another thread that better explains LaFleur's offensive system, but only he and his offensive staff really know how/and with who they will remake GB's offense. The GB defense is a completely separate issue moving forward and FAs most likely will play an important role as Coach Pettine enters his second season with the team. I see need with an Edge Rusher, Safety, and Linebacker. Those weaknesses must also be high on the GM's list as well.

Or be able to drop back into coverage like Matthews and Fackrell did....

But I'm not sure how any of these guys can do the DT/coverage stuff...

Za'Darius Smith sounds like a pass rush specialist... and they didn't trust him in the run game for some reason... I'm thinking he is going to try to go to a 4-3 defense as sometimes those pass rush specialist can stay on the field more.
