Jolly trial delayed again

Johnny Jolly's trial on felony drug charges in Houston has been carried over to Monday at the defendant's request, according to Donna Hawkins of the Harris County district attorney's office.

Jolly's trial, which has been pushed back several times, was scheduled to start today.

Jolly was arrested July 8 and charged with possessing over 200 grams of codeine. A grand jury indicted him on Oct. 27.

I'm bumping, because I have heard and/or read nada on this.


Does anyone know what happened yet? Perhaps heard something on the radio/TV?

Continued. Someone tell us why this is not a bad thing.

I personally think it hurts the packers, I would like to know the verdict now so we can plan on a backup plan if he gets suspended or worse gets jail time.

A couple quite opinions..

1) I hope he gets fair and equal treatment from the legal system, not above or below the common Joe Saturday.

2) If not in jail, I hope the NFL gives him a couple game whack of sitting on the sidelines.. sending a clear message to him and others to be wise about the company you keep.

3) These Players owe it to the league and themselves to be responsible in how they conduct themselves. Pretty simple, be smart and obey the freaking law.

No argument here, Z. At the same time, I'm with Dhazer as regards the Packers. This getting stringed along is not helpful when you are trying to figure out your roster. June 26th is late. I think we now have to plan as if he isn't in the equation for this year. We have no indication that this isn't going to be bad, so we have to assume it will be.

This sounds ominous to me. Typically when lawyers petition for a continuance, they're trying to delay the inevitable (unless they really do believe that given sufficient time, they can unearth exculpatory evidence, which I doubt is the case here). It's not in Johnny Jolly's professional best interest to keep postponing this, so I don't understand the tactic.

The worst I see out of this is a 4 game suspension, and even that is pretty hefty for a first time offense. We definitely need Jolly in there to help man one of the DE positions, but any suspension he gets won't effect him during the OTAs, mini-camps, and training camp. He might miss a couple of games to start the year, which sucks, but it's not like they'll keep him out for the entire season.
