Could be. Could just be reflective of wishful thinking on the part of the writers, too. Brown has dual citizenship, so he's sort of been adopted by the German sportswriters. They call him "the German hero" and "the great German hope," among other such maudlin nicknames. Historically, American football hasn't been terribly relevant in Germany, meaning German writers are desperate for any juicy tidbit to pump up the fans at home.
