While the hope is the injured left knee will improve, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he is concerned it will worsen the more he plays on it. "Hopefully it goes the other way, though," he said.

As far as what it means it is hard to say. The article didn't give much context. If a reporter asked something like "is there a danger of the injury getting worse if you continue to play on it" then his full response of "Yeah, obviously that's a concern. Hopefully it goes the other way though." doesn't really say anything as to how it has responded and I don't think you can necessarily read that into it.

There is not much to go on based on the article.

I think Rob's headline is a little misleading. Or I read into it wrong because I take it as Rodgers is almost playing scared. Anytime you are nicked up or playing with pain, the concern of it getting worse is inferred. No one is going out there hurt saying playing a violent sport is gonna make it heal faster.

I don't think he played scared. It's an acknowledgement that taking more hits, running, pivoting and the like, might exacerbate the injury.

Might also just be creating ambiguity for our next opponent. Hard to say. Hopefully he won't have to play an extra 10 minutes every week.

And maybe he is playing a mind game with the opponents.

He was asked if he is worried about his knee getting worse and he responded:
"Yeah, obviously that's a concern," Rodgers said Wednesday. "Hopefully it goes the other way though."

That's a hell of a lot different than the implication of the headline. Just a throw away comment twisted into clickbait by ESPN.
