The Packers had a total of ten players not participating in the year’s first public practice. The Green Bay Packers  practiced for the second time in 2018 and for the first time this year in front of the public on Tuesday, but there were a number of notable players not participating fully in the team’s drills. A handful of starters were sitting out with injuries — some due to rehab from injuries or surgery from last season and others with some issues that they are working through at present.
Among the most notable players not practicing is wide receiver Davante Adams , who was held out with a reported hamstring issue. However, he was joined by starting pass-rushers Clay Matthews  and Nick Perry  as well as offensive linemen Lane Taylor  and Bryan Bulaga .
Matthews and Bulaga were reportedly dealing with knee injuries (Bulaga’s is continued recovery from a torn ACL), while Perry  and Taylor were listed with ankle issues. Taylor’s issue is a new one, as he told the media after practice  that he had a minor ankle surgery following the 2017 season and will likely sit out through spring practices.
As for Adams, he said after practice that his injury is nothing to worry about. in fact, he leaped over a practice referee in an attempt to show fans and coaches that his absence from drills should not be a concern. Indeed, for most of these players, their lack of participation is likely just a precaution. Adams has little need for practice reps at this stage, given his four years of experience with the Packers. Perry  and Matthews might benefit more from early reps due to the installation of a new defensive scheme, but given their injury histories there is no need to risk either of them on the second day of spring practices.
All told, there were ten players on the Packers’ 89-man roster not participating in Tuesday’s practice, according to multiple media reports. In addition to the players mentioned above, that group also includes WRs Trevor Davis and Colby Pearson  and tight end Emanuel Byrd , all of whom had reported hamstring issues, as well as defensive backs Ha Ha Clinton-Dix  and Tramon Williams. The latter two veterans were not in attendance on Tuesday for undisclosed reasons; of the two, only Williams has a workout bonus in his contract.
The Packers conclude this week’s OTA practices with a closed practice on Wednesday. Their next open practice is scheduled for Thursday, May 31st.

Clay Matthews is dealing with injuries at this point in the offseason? I'm shocked, stunned, flummoxed, flabbergasted. Who could possibly have seen that coming?

It would seem that guys who have had injury problems in the past are sitting out, especially at positions where they really want to see what they have in the draft and develop those guys, such as wide receiver.
However, it’s not politically correct with the league to say “we really don’t give a damn how these experienced guys practice at this point so we want to see what we have with younger guys.”
Fine for now. But with the new defensive scheme coming in, these guys better practice regularly, or we will see the same screw ups we had during the DC era.

I always assumed these first OTAs were about rookies learning how to practice from coaches and veterans. They are the definition of preliminary.

On the bright side, yes, there is a bright side. The bright side is this. We have failed OTA's, thus freeing up 16 Sunday's in Fall/Winter for you and all other fans.

Majority of that is happening in the class room, but it makes you wonder what type of excuse Haha has for not being there.
